Description
The Bergara BXR Steel 22 LR is a semi-automatic 22 LR rifle built with the same attention to accuracy that made Bergara famous for barrels. This configuration (Bergara model BXR001, UPC 043125110025) pairs a 16.5-inch fluted chromoly steel barrel threaded for a suppressor with a black speckled green synthetic stock, an integral 30 MOA Picatinny rail and a 10-round rotary magazine.
Bergara BXR Steel 22 LR Overview
Most semi-auto rimfires are built to a price. The BXR is built to shoot. Its 16.5-inch barrel keeps the rifle short and handy at about 5.2 pounds, the trigger breaks at around 3.5 pounds right out of the box, and the integral rail means your optic will not shift or loosen. It is a great choice for plinking, small game, rimfire matches and teaching new shooters.
Fluted Chromoly Barrel
The fluted chromoly steel barrel combines stiffness with reduced weight, and the matte blued finish keeps glare down in the field. The threaded barrel accepts your favorite rimfire suppressor, and the 1:16 twist suits standard 22 LR bullet weights.
Integral 30 MOA Rail
The aluminum receiver has a built-in 30 MOA Picatinny rail, so there are no screw-on bases to work loose. The built-in elevation helps you reach farther targets without running out of scope adjustment, and it accepts nearly any rimfire scope or red dot.
Crisp Trigger and Rotary Magazine
A factory trigger of about 3.5 pounds gives you a clean, predictable break for accurate shots. The 10-round rotary magazine feeds reliably and sits flush with the stock for a clean profile.
22 LR for Practice and Fun
The 22 LR is the most popular cartridge in the world: ammunition is inexpensive, recoil is almost nonexistent and it is accurate enough for serious target work. That makes it ideal for plinking, squirrel hunting and teaching the fundamentals.
Choosing a Scope
A compact 2-7x or 3-9x rimfire scope is a perfect match, and a small red dot works well for fast plinking and youth shooters. Zero at 50 yards, then check where your load lands at 25 and 75 yards so you know exactly where to hold on small targets.
Range Day Checklist
Bring eye and ear protection, a few hundred rounds, a spare magazine if you have one, and a small rag and oil. Reactive steel targets and spinners make practice more fun, especially for new shooters.
Choosing Ammunition
Semi-auto rimfires run best with quality high-velocity ammunition. Try a few brands to see what cycles and groups best in your rifle, then stock up on that load for practice and hunting.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Rimfire ammunition is dirty, so clean the bolt, breech face and chamber every few hundred rounds. A light coat of oil on the bolt rails keeps the action cycling smoothly in cold weather.
A Great First Rifle
Its light weight, short length and mild report make the BXR a great rifle for teaching new and young shooters. Keep early sessions short and fun, focus on safe handling, and celebrate small wins on reactive targets.
Safe Storage at Home
Store the rifle unloaded in a locked safe or cabinet with ammunition kept separately, and teach everyone in the household basic safety rules.
