Description
The Bergara B-14 Ridge PRC is a dependable, accurate hunting rifle built around a heavier No. 5 contour barrel that is threaded for a brake or suppressor. This configuration (Bergara model B14SM509C, UPC 043125015733) pairs a 24-inch Graphite Black Cerakote barrel with a black and gray speckled SoftTouch synthetic stock and a hinged floorplate magazine, and it weighs about 7.6 pounds.
Bergara B-14 Ridge PRC Overview
Bergara is one of the most respected barrel makers in the world, building barrels in Spain for its own rifles and for other top manufacturers. The Ridge puts that barrel on the super-smooth B-14 action at a price everyday hunters can afford, and it comes with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee when used with quality factory ammunition. Every Ridge ships with a threaded barrel, ready for the muzzle device of your choice.
Threaded No. 5 Contour Barrel
The No. 5 contour is heavier than a typical sporter barrel, so it stays stable as it heats up and helps hold groups tight through a string of shots. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, ready for a muzzle brake or a suppressor. A Graphite Black Cerakote finish protects the steel from rain, snow and sweat.
Smooth B-14 Action
The B-14 action uses a two-lug bolt with a sliding plate extractor and a coned bolt nose and breech for smooth feeding and extraction. The receiver is drilled and tapped for standard Remington 700 short-action scope bases, so you have endless mounting options.
Extra Reach From the 6.5 PRC
The 6.5 PRC drives long 6.5mm bullets roughly 200 to 300 feet per second faster than the 6.5 Creedmoor, extending effective range on deer, sheep and mule deer with moderate recoil. It fits a short action, and the 1:8 twist stabilizes heavy 140 to 156 grain bullets. The hinged floorplate magazine holds 2 rounds and makes unloading quick and safe at the end of the day.
Synthetic Stock With SoftTouch Finish
The American-style synthetic stock shrugs off weather that can move a wood stock. A SoftTouch coating gives a secure grip with wet or gloved hands, and sling studs come installed.
Choosing Ammunition
Try two or three quality loads and pick the one that groups best from your barrel. Once you find it, buy enough of a single lot to sight in, practice and use all season so your zero and your drops stay the same.
Setting Up Optics
A 3-9×40 or 4-12×40 scope in sturdy rings is a great all-around match. Zero at 100 yards, then confirm where the bullet lands at 200 and 300 yards so you know exactly where to hold when the moment comes.
Practice Before the Season
Spend a few range days shooting from the positions you will actually use in the field: sitting with shooting sticks, kneeling and off a backpack. Practice working the bolt without lifting your head from the stock so follow-up shots come quickly when they matter.
Hunting Season Checklist
Pack a sling, a spare box of ammunition, scope covers and a copy of your license and tags. Double check that your scope rings and base screws are tight before every trip.
Care and Maintenance
Clean the bore with a copper solvent after the range and after the hunt, wipe the bolt and lugs, and put a light coat of oil on exposed metal. Store the rifle muzzle down so oil does not drain into the stock.
Safe Storage at Home
Store the rifle unloaded in a locked safe or cabinet with ammunition kept separately, and teach everyone in the household basic safety rules.
