Description
The Bergara B-14 Hunter 7mm-08 brings Bergara barrel accuracy to an affordable big-game rifle. This configuration (Bergara model B14S107C, UPC 043125015870) pairs a 22-inch Graphite Black Cerakote barrel with an American-style synthetic stock in a SoftTouch speckled green finish and a hinged floorplate magazine, and it weighs about 7.1 pounds.
Bergara B-14 Hunter 7mm-08 Overview
Bergara builds its barrels in Spain at a highly automated barrel factory, and the Hunter line puts that quality in reach of everyday hunters. The rifle comes with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee when used with quality factory ammunition, which is rare at this price. It is a no-frills, dependable rifle you can carry into a deer stand on opening morning or pack across a ridge.
Smooth B-14 Action
The B-14 action uses a two-lug bolt with a sliding plate extractor and a coned bolt nose and breech for smooth feeding and extraction. The bolt runs slick out of the box and gets even smoother with use. The receiver is drilled and tapped for standard Remington 700 short-action scope bases, so you have endless mounting options.
Synthetic Stock Built for Bad Weather
The American-style synthetic stock is molded from glass-fiber reinforced polymer, so it shrugs off rain, snow and temperature swings that can move a wood stock. A classic sporter shape and slim grip make the rifle point naturally from field positions, and sling studs are installed. The speckled finish hides scuffs and gives a secure hold with gloves.
The Efficient 7mm-08 Rem
The 7mm-08 Remington necks the 308 case down to 7mm, giving you a flatter trajectory and noticeably less recoil than a 308 with bullets that penetrate well on deer, pronghorn and even elk at sensible ranges. It is a favorite for hunters who want a short-action rifle that is easy on the shoulder. The hinged floorplate magazine holds 4 rounds and makes unloading quick and safe at the end of the day.
Setup Tips
A quality 3-9x or 4-12x scope in sturdy rings is a great match for this rifle. Zero at 100 yards with the load you plan to hunt with, then check your drops at 200 and 300 yards so you know exactly where to hold.
Practice Before the Season
Spend a few range days shooting from the positions you will actually use in the field: sitting with shooting sticks, kneeling and off a backpack. Practice working the bolt without lifting your head from the stock so follow-up shots come quickly when they matter.
Hunting Season Checklist
Pack a sling, a spare box of ammunition, scope covers, a small cleaning rod for clearing snow or mud from the bore, and a copy of your hunting license and tags. Double check that your scope rings and base screws are tight before every trip.
Care and Maintenance
Clean the bore with a copper solvent after the range and after the hunt, wipe the bolt and lugs, and put a light coat of oil on exposed metal. Store the rifle muzzle down so oil does not drain into the stock.
Choosing Ammunition
Try two or three quality hunting loads and pick the one that groups best in your barrel. Buy enough of one lot to sight in, practice and hunt with the same ammunition all season.
Safe Storage at Home
Store the rifle unloaded in a locked safe or cabinet with ammunition kept separately, and teach everyone in the household basic safety rules.
