Description
The Beretta A400 Solo Optifade Marsh 28 is a gas-operated 12 gauge semi-auto built for waterfowl hunters, with a 28-inch barrel, 3-inch chamber, and full Gore Optifade Marsh camo. Its long barrel and soft recoil make it a natural choice for pass shooting ducks and geese over open water and flooded fields.
Beretta A400 Solo Optifade Marsh 28 Overview
Beretta designed the A400 Solo as a tough crossover gun for hunters who face cold, wet, and muddy days. It pairs the company’s newest gas system with Kick-Off Plus recoil reduction and cold hammer-forged barrels. The Optifade Marsh pattern was developed by Gore using research on how waterfowl see, so it breaks up your outline in cattails, rice fields, and open marsh rather than simply copying vegetation.
Gas System
Beretta’s B-Link Pro gas system is rated 36 percent faster and 46 percent cleaner than its predecessor. It handles everything from light teal loads to heavy 3-inch goose loads without adjustment. A cleaner-running action means fewer malfunctions late in the season, but you should still clean the piston and cylinder regularly, especially after hunting in mud or freezing rain.
Kick-Off Plus Recoil Reduction
Dampeners in the stock smooth the first and second recoil peaks, cutting felt recoil by up to 40 percent according to Beretta. Less recoil and muzzle rise mean faster, more accurate follow-up shots on flaring birds and a more comfortable shoulder after a limit hunt.
28-Inch Cold Hammer-Forged Barrel
The Steelium barrel uses a tri-alloy steel that is cold hammer forged and vacuum distended for dense, consistent patterns with steel and other non-toxic shot. Side ribs were removed to save weight. The 28-inch length gives a smoother swing and longer sight plane for pass shooting, though it is slightly less handy in tight layout blinds and boats than a 26-inch barrel. Interchangeable Beretta choke tubes let you tune patterns for decoying or passing birds.
Fit and Handling
Shims adjust drop and cast, and spacers adjust length of pull, so the gun fits you with heavy cold-weather layers. The receiver is drilled and tapped for an optic, and oversized controls are easy to use with gloves.
Built for Marsh Conditions
Full camo coverage protects the gun from scratches and corrosion. After hunting brackish or salt water, rinse with fresh water, dry the action thoroughly, and apply a light coat of oil.
Waterfowl Notes
Use non-toxic shot for ducks and geese as federal migratory bird rules require, and keep the magazine plugged to three shells total. Pattern your load and choke before opening day.
State Laws
Some states set additional rules on magazine capacity or hunting seasons. Check your local regulations, and your receiving FFL dealer can help confirm the gun is legal where you live.
