Beretta A400 Solo 26 Optifade Marsh Overview

The A400 Solo is Beretta’s crossover semi-auto, built to handle waterfowl, turkeys and upland birds with one gun. It runs on the B-Link Pro gas system, which Beretta rates as its fastest and cleanest operating system, cycling everything from light target loads to heavy 3-inch hunting shells without adjustment. The receiver is aerospace-grade aluminum, the barrel is Beretta’s cold hammer-forged Steelium with a long forcing cone, and the stock includes the Kick-Off Plus hydraulic recoil reduction system along with shims and spacers for fit.

Why a 26-Inch Barrel

The 26-inch barrel is the most maneuverable option in the A400 Solo line. It swings quickly in tight blinds, layout boats and pit setups, and it is easier to carry through cattails and brush on the walk in. Shorter barrels also make the gun a better crossover for turkeys, upland birds and sporting clays practice. The tradeoff is a slightly shorter sight plane and a little less swing momentum on long passing shots, which some experienced waterfowlers prefer to have.

Optifade Marsh Camo

Optifade Marsh was designed around how waterfowl see, using a macro and micro pattern meant to break up the outline of the gun at the distances birds approach decoys. Its tan and gray tones suit open marshes, rice fields and coastal flats, especially under overcast skies. Hunters who mostly work timber holes or heavily shaded cover may find it a little light, but for open-water and grassy setups it is an excellent choice.

Recoil, Fit and Controls

Kick-Off Plus uses hydraulic dampeners in the stock to reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise, which makes a full day of 3-inch steel loads more comfortable. Beretta includes stock shims and spacers so you can adjust drop, cast and length of pull to fit your build and your cold-weather clothing. The safety is a two-position reversible crossbolt, the B-Lok magazine cap allows tool-free takedown, and the B-Uffer recoil pad stands up to wet and muddy conditions. The dampeners add some weight to the stock, so the gun balances slightly rearward compared with a non-Kick-Off model.

Chokes and Sights

The A400 Solo ships with Optima HP extended choke tubes in cylinder, modified and full constrictions. Modified is a good starting point for decoying ducks with steel, while full tightens patterns for geese or turkeys at longer range. Always confirm a choke is rated for the shot type you use, and never use tight constrictions with large steel shot unless the tube is marked for it. A fiber optic front sight with a steel mid-bead sits on a stepped, ventilated rib for quick alignment.

Care in Harsh Conditions

Waterfowl guns live in salt spray, mud and freezing rain. Wipe the gun down after every hunt, run a light coat of oil on the metal, and clean the gas piston and cylinder regularly. The B-Link Pro system stays cleaner than older designs, but carbon and grit still build up over a season. Store the gun dry rather than in a wet case, and check the choke tube threads periodically.

State Laws and Ownership

Pennsylvania buyers can complete the transfer at our shop, and customers in other states can have the shotgun shipped to a licensed dealer near them. Migratory bird regulations limit shotgun capacity, and this model is listed at 2+1, so check current federal and state hunting rules before each season.
