Description

The Beretta 92XI American Combat is a Beretta 92XI single action only pistol finished in a hand-painted military camouflage pattern, produced with Howe Arms. This one wears the woodland Battle Dress Uniform scheme, the pattern that clothed American soldiers from the early 1980s through the early 2000s. Howe Arms was founded by Richard Howe, an Army combat veteran of two Afghanistan tours, and the painting work is done by a disabled veteran artist. Because each pistol is finished by hand, no two come out exactly alike.

Underneath the Cerakote it is a full-size 92XI: steel frame, steel slide, 4.7 inch barrel, and a fifteen round magazine.

What the 92XI changes about the 92 platform

The headline change is the safety. For forty years the 92 series carried its safety and decocker on the slide. The 92XI moves it to the frame, ambidextrous, where the thumb finds it naturally and where it can be ridden through a string of fire the way a 1911 shooter expects. That single change reorganizes how the gun is run.

The second change is the trigger. This is a single action only pistol with the X-treme S trigger, a flat-faced shoe with DLC coated internals. There is no long double action first shot to manage. The hammer is skeletonized to cut reciprocating weight, and the gun can be carried cocked and locked.

Sights, optics, and the frame

A fiber optic front sight sits in a dovetail up front, which picks up available light and gives a bright aiming point faster than a plain black post. The slide is cut for a micro red dot, so an optic can be added without milling.

The frame carries the Vertec profile that slims the grip compared with the original 92, a beavertail at the rear, and a Picatinny section ahead of the trigger guard for a light. Frame and slide are both steel on this model rather than aluminum, and that mass is what keeps a single action 9mm this flat under recoil.

Why it is worth considering

  • A frame-mounted ambidextrous safety on a 92 series pistol, which shooters asked Beretta for over four decades.
  • A single action only trigger with a flat face and coated internals, which is a genuinely good trigger by any standard.
  • A steel frame and slide that hold the muzzle down through fast strings.
  • Fiber optic front sight and a factory optic cut, so no gunsmith is required.
  • A finish applied by hand by a veteran artist, which makes each pistol its own object rather than one of a batch.

Who it suits

This suits the collector who wants a shooting pistol rather than a safe queen, and the 92 series shooter who has always wanted the frame safety and the single action trigger. It is a competent home defense and range gun, and the fifteen round magazine and optic cut keep it current. It is heavy for concealed carry at full size and steel framed, and the painted finish is meant to be looked at, so anyone planning to drag it through brush should expect honest wear.

If you want the same pistol with more rounds on board, the eighteen round version of this build is the natural step up.

Ammunition, finish care, and transfer notes

The 9x19mm Luger cartridge is standardized by SAAMI, and a single action only 92XI handles the full range of factory loads built to spec. For practice we keep 115 grain brass-cased range ammunition in stock; 124 grain tends to give the best balance of recoil and point of impact through a 4.7 inch barrel. Standard 92 series magazines interchange, and the eighteen round version of this same build ships with the higher capacity magazines if that matters to you.

Cerakote is durable, but a hand-painted multi-color finish is still a finish. Clean it with standard solvents rather than aggressive bore cleaners, avoid soaking painted surfaces, and expect holster wear at the muzzle and the slide edges over time. Shooters who want the same single action trigger with a longer sight radius and more capacity should compare the 92XI SAO LCO. Every handgun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer and background check, and Pennsylvania buyers should plan on the state point of contact check at pickup.
