The Beretta 92X Performance Carry Optic is Beretta’s answer to USPSA Carry Optics and IDPA competition, built on an all-steel 92 frame and slide finished in gray Nistan. At just under three pounds it is deliberately heavy, because weight is what keeps the sights still between shots.
It ships optics ready with two mounting plates and two magazines, wearing an Extreme-S competition trigger and a fiber optic front sight over an adjustable rear.
Beretta 92X Performance Carry Optic Slide and Sights
The 4.9-inch barrel sits under a serrated steel slide cut from the factory for a red dot, with two optic plates included so most common footprints mount without a separate purchase. Front and rear serrations give solid purchase on a heavy slide.
Irons are a fiber optic front paired with a fully adjustable rear, which means the pistol is completely usable before you mount anything and stays zeroed as a backup afterward. The open-top slide that has defined the 92 series since the 1970s is still here, and it still ejects with almost no drama.
Frame, Trigger and Grips
The frame is steel rather than the alloy of a standard 92FS, with an extended beavertail and a Picatinny accessory rail. The beavertail lets you take a high grip without hammer bite and helps you index the pistol identically on every draw.
The Extreme-S trigger is the competition piece. It uses a frame-mounted, non-decocking safety, so the pistol can be carried cocked and locked in single action, which is exactly how Carry Optics competitors want to run it. Reduced-circumference polymer grips shrink the trigger reach for smaller hands.

Carry Optics rules cap magazine capacity and require the optic to be slide-mounted, which pushes competitors toward heavy, well-balanced pistols with excellent triggers. This one checks every box straight out of the case.
The all-steel construction is the differentiator. Most Carry Optics guns are polymer-framed, and shooters add tungsten guide rods and weighted grip modules chasing the stability a steel frame simply has to begin with.
Why an All-Steel 9mm
Weight is the simplest recoil-management tool available. At nearly three pounds, this pistol barely moves under 9mm recoil, so the dot returns to the same spot shot after shot and split times come down without any change in technique.
That makes it excellent at the range and for home defense, where carry weight does not matter. It is a lot of pistol to wear on a belt all day, and Beretta does not pretend otherwise.
Optics and Magazines
Two mounting plates ship in the box, which covers most of the common red dot footprints without a separate order. Match the plate to your dot before you mount anything, since forcing the wrong plate is the fastest way to strip a slide screw.
Magazines are standard 92-series pattern, so spares are inexpensive and widely available. Competitors typically run four or five to avoid loading between stages.
