Description
The Beretta 80X Cheetah Tactical in 380 ACP, part number J80XTACLED10, is the heavy end of the Cheetah line. The frame is steel rather than aluminium, the barrel is 4.40 inches and threaded, the slide is optic ready and serrated, and the grips are Vertec panels over a bronze and black two tone finish. Capacity is ten plus one, which is the configuration for shooters in states that cap magazines and for anyone who prefers the shorter grip.
The action is the locked breech tilt barrel Beretta introduced with the 80X, not the fixed barrel blowback of the old 84 series, so the slide racks easily and the gun is far gentler than a blowback 380 of similar size.
What a steel frame does to a 380
A 380 has very little recoil to begin with. Put the action in a steel frame and what is left mostly disappears, which makes this one of the easiest centrefire pistols to shoot accurately at speed.
The weight is the point, not an oversight. This is a range and home gun first and a carry gun second, and the people who buy it generally know that going in.
The longer 4.40 inch barrel also gets more out of a cartridge that has little margin to spare, and it moves the front sight further from the eye, which helps on a gun this easy to shoot fast.
Ten plus one rather than thirteen keeps the grip shorter, which some shooters prefer regardless of what their state requires.
The threaded barrel and the optic cut
The barrel is threaded from the factory, so a thread protector comes fitted and a muzzle device or suppressor mounts without gunsmithing.
We do not sell suppressors or any other NFA item. If you intend to run one, the can is bought separately through an NFA dealer and requires ATF approval before you take possession of it.
The slide is cut for a micro red dot at the factory. On a 380 a dot is more useful than most people expect, because the gun is calm enough that you will see the dot lift and settle rather than lose it.
A Picatinny rail on the dust cover takes a light, which matters on a gun that is likely to live by a bed rather than in a pocket.

Cartridge dimensions and pressures are standardized by SAAMI. For practice we stock 95 grain 380 ACP full metal jacket, and for defensive use 95 grain jacketed hollow point. Put at least a box of your chosen defensive load through the gun before you rely on it, since 380 hollow points vary more in feeding reliability than any other common pistol cartridge. Buyers who want the same gun with more rounds should compare the 15 round Tactical, the lighter aluminium framed guns are the gray 13 round and black 13 round builds.
Every handgun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.
Why it is worth considering
- A steel frame, which makes an already mild cartridge almost recoilless.
- A 4.40 inch threaded barrel with a factory thread protector.
- A factory optic cut, so a micro red dot goes on without machining.
- A locked breech action, so the slide racks easily rather than fighting a heavy blowback spring.
- A dust cover rail, which suits a gun that will spend more time at home than in a holster.
Who it suits
This suits a shooter who wants a soft shooting, easy to run centrefire pistol for the range or the nightstand, and who does not mind the weight of steel. Anyone whose first requirement is concealment should buy one of the aluminium framed Cheetahs or a smaller gun entirely. Every handgun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.
