Description

The BCM RECCE-11 MCMR is Bravo Company’s 11.5 inch 5.56 AR pistol, built to the same specification as their carbines rather than to a lower one because it is short. The barrel is government profile, MIL-SPEC 11595E steel with a chrome lined USGI 5.56 bore, manganese phosphate finished, with a 1:7 twist and a standard carbine gas system. Eleven and a half inches is the shortest barrel length at which a 5.56 AR still works properly.

Below it, reliability gets fussy and velocity falls off a cliff; at 11.5 the rifle runs clean on a carbine gas system and still pushes a 55 grain bullet fast enough to matter. It is the length military and police short barrel guns have settled on for good reason.

What You Get on the BCM RECCE-11 MCMR

The MCMR handguard is BCM’s aluminum M-LOK free float rail, slim enough to grip comfortably and long enough to run a hand well forward of the muzzle. On a short gun that forward hand position matters more than it does on a 16 inch carbine.

The bolt carrier group is MIL-SPEC Carpenter No. 158 steel with a chrome lined full auto profile carrier, high pressure tested and magnetic particle inspected. On a short barrel with a carbine gas system the bolt works harder than on a longer rifle, so this is not the place for a bargain BCG. A USGI H buffer is fitted for the same reason.

The rest is BCM Gunfighter: compensator Mod 0 at the muzzle, ambidextrous charging handle, pistol grip, QD end plate, PNT trigger and enhanced trigger guard. These are the parts most owners fit as upgrades, which is much of the value.

What Is Not Included, and Legal Notes

Read this before you order: this pistol ships with a bare receiver extension and no brace. That is normal for a BCM pistol and it is a deliberate choice, since most buyers have a preference, but it does mean budgeting for a brace on top of the purchase price and it means the gun is awkward to shoot as delivered.

An 11.5 inch barrel with a carbine gas system is loud and throws a good deal of flash and blast, and the compensator does not soften that for bystanders. Indoors or under cover it is genuinely punishing. This is the trade you accept for the short package.

Rules around pistol braces have changed more than once in recent years and state law varies considerably, so confirm what is legal where you live before ordering, and before fitting a brace. Magazine capacity is also restricted in several states.

Why it is worth considering

  • Built to BCM carbine specification rather than a cheaper short barrel spec
  • Chrome lined USGI 5.56 bore and a Carpenter No. 158 HPT and MPI bolt
  • MCMR aluminum M-LOK free float handguard, slim and genuinely usable
  • USGI H buffer, which matters on a short carbine gas gun
  • Eleven and a half inches, the shortest length at which 5.56 still works properly

Who it suits

This suits the buyer who wants a short, serious 5.56 built to a real standard and who already knows which brace they want to fit. It is not the right purchase if you expect a complete, ready to shoot firearm out of the box.

Ammunition and Transfer Notes for the BCM RECCE-11 MCMR

Short barrels change what ammunition makes sense. A 55 grain load that fragments reliably from a 16 inch barrel may not reach the velocity threshold to do so from 11.5 inches, which is why most serious short barrel users run bonded or barrier blind loads designed to work at lower impact speeds. For practice any 5.56 ball is fine; for defensive use, choose a load specifically tested from a short barrel. The chamber is cut to 5.56 NATO, so both 5.56 and 223 Remington are safe. Cartridge standards are published by SAAMI.

Expect more flash than you are used to. A good deal of the powder charge is still burning as the bullet leaves an 11.5 inch muzzle, and that shows up as flash at dusk and as a real concussion indoors. A flash hider in place of the compensator is worth considering if the gun has a low light role.

The muzzle threads are the standard 1/2×28. MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items, so a suppressor would be a separate purchase requiring ATF approval, a tax stamp and its own transfer. If you want a complete carbine instead, our BCM MID-16 MOD 0 is the 16 inch option, and more of our inventory is on the MAG5 Firearms shop page. The BCM RECCE-11 MCMR ships to a licensed dealer of your choosing, where you will complete a 4473 and a NICS check.
