Description

The BCM Lower Group AR-15 is a complete, ready to assemble lower receiver from Bravo Company Manufacturing, built around a forged 7075-T6 receiver and finished in black. It is the half of an AR build that most people get wrong by economising, and buying it assembled from BCM removes a whole category of problems. What arrives is a lower receiver with the fire control group, trigger guard, grip, receiver extension, buffer and stock already fitted. All you need to finish a rifle is an upper.

For a first build, or for anyone who does not want to fight a bolt catch roll pin on a kitchen table, that is a sensible way to spend money.

What Comes Fitted on the BCM Lower Group AR-15

The trigger is BCM’s PNT fire control group, a nickel Teflon coated mil-spec pattern trigger. It is not a match trigger and does not pretend to be, but the coating gives it a noticeably smoother pull than a bare mil-spec unit, and it is the sensible default for a general purpose rifle.

The stock is the BCM Gunfighter Mod 2 SOPMOD, sitting on a 7075-T6 mil-spec diameter receiver extension with a carbine H buffer. The heavier H buffer is a deliberate choice: it slows the bolt slightly and takes some of the harshness out of a carbine gas system.

A BCM Gunfighter pistol grip and BCM enhanced trigger guard finish the assembly. The enlarged trigger guard is one of those small things you stop noticing once you have it and immediately miss when you shoot a rifle without it in gloves.

Why Buy a Complete Lower Rather Than Parts

Assembling a lower is not difficult, but it involves roll pins, a bolt catch that wants to scar the receiver, and a detent spring that launches itself across the room at least once per build. Buying it complete from a manufacturer that does this every day removes that entirely.

It also removes the sourcing problem. A lower parts kit, a decent trigger, a receiver extension, a buffer and a stock bought separately from four different vendors will usually cost more than this assembly and arrive over three weeks. This is one order and one box.

BCM builds to a genuine standard. The company grew out of supplying working guns rather than the retail market, and their parts specifications reflect that. You are paying for consistency rather than for features.

Why it is worth considering

  • Everything below the takedown pins is already fitted, so all you need is an upper
  • BCM PNT nickel Teflon trigger rather than a bare mil-spec unit
  • Carbine H buffer, which is a real improvement over a standard carbine buffer
  • Mil-spec diameter receiver extension, so any standard stock will fit later
  • Cheaper and faster than sourcing the same parts separately

Who it suits

This suits the first time builder who wants to skip the fiddliest part of an AR build, and the experienced one who has done enough roll pins for a lifetime. It is also a sensible way to start a build slowly: buy the lower now, choose the upper later.

Finishing the Build on a BCM Lower Group AR-15

The upper is where the decisions actually are. Barrel length sets the gas system, and the gas system sets how the rifle shoots: a 16 inch mid length runs softer than a 16 inch carbine, and a 14.5 inch carbine is snappier than either. Match the buffer to that choice if you deviate from a standard setup, though the H buffer supplied here suits most 16 inch carbine and mid length builds without changes.

Do not economize on the bolt carrier group. It is the part that cycles under pressure several hundred times an hour, and a properly made carrier with a shot peened and magnetic particle inspected bolt is worth the difference. The same logic that makes this lower worth buying applies twice over to the BCG.

The lower receiver is the serialized part, so this assembly transfers like a complete firearm even though it will not fire without an upper. If you would rather buy a finished rifle, our Barrett REC7 DI carbine is ready to shoot, and a Battle Arms billet stripped lower is the option if you want to fit the parts yourself. Cartridge standards for whatever you build are published by SAAMI. More of our inventory is on the MAG5 Firearms shop page. The BCM Lower Group AR-15 ships to a licensed dealer of your choosing, where you will complete a 4473 and a NICS check.
