Barrett MRAD Covert 308 Rifle

Description

Barrett MRAD Covert: Precision Built for Discreet Deployment

The Barrett MRAD Covert is a purpose-built bolt-action rifle chambered in 308 Win, engineered for shooters who need serious long-range capability in a compact, transportable footprint. This variant pairs a 17-inch match grade fluted barrel with a 1:8 twist rate, delivering the accuracy Barrett’s MRAD platform is known for while trimming overall length for easier storage and movement. The side-folding, adjustable-comb polymer stock lets the rifle collapse down for transport in a case or backpack, then lock back into a rock-solid shooting position in seconds. At 11.90 pounds and 40.40 inches overall, it balances portability with the weight needed for stable, repeatable long-range shots in the field.

Feeding from a 10+1 capacity magazine, the MRAD Covert gives shooters enough onboard ammunition for extended strings of fire without swapping mags mid-string. A two-stage trigger provides a clean, predictable break that helps wring out every bit of accuracy from the match grade barrel, while the two-position safety keeps operation simple under pressure. The aluminum receiver wears a durable black Cerakote finish and integrates a full-length Picatinny rail for mounting optics, while the M-LOK handguard offers modular attachment points for lights, bipods, and other accessories. Ambidextrous controls make the rifle equally comfortable for left- and right-handed shooters.

Key Features and Benefits

The heart of the Barrett MRAD Covert is its 17-inch match grade fluted barrel, cut with a 1:8 twist to stabilize a wide range of 308 Win loads for consistent, repeatable groups at distance. Fluting reduces weight and increases surface area for better heat dissipation during strings of fire, so accuracy holds up as the barrel warms. Paired with the two-stage trigger, the barrel lets shooters stage the trigger, settle the crosshairs, and break a clean shot with minimal disturbance to the point of aim. For hunters, precision rifle competitors, and tactical shooters alike, that combination translates directly into hits at extended range.

Portability is where the MRAD Covert earns its name. The side-folding stock with an adjustable comb collapses the rifle’s overall length for storage in a backpack, vehicle, or hard case, then snaps back into a repeatable, locked position for shooting. The adjustable comb lets shooters dial in proper cheek weld for a consistent sight picture regardless of optic height, which matters when running larger magnified scopes or night vision setups. Combined with a manageable 11.90-pound weight and 40.40-inch overall length, the rifle is easy to move through terrain, stage in a vehicle, or carry on extended patrols without sacrificing the stability needed for precision shots.

The MRAD Covert’s aluminum receiver is finished in black Cerakote for corrosion resistance and a durable, low-glare exterior that stands up to field use. A full-length Picatinny rail runs the length of the receiver, giving shooters a stable, repeatable platform for mounting a wide range of riflescopes, night vision, or thermal optics. The M-LOK handguard surrounds the barrel without touching it, preserving a free float for accuracy while offering multiple attachment slots for bipods, lights, and grips. Ambidextrous controls, including the two-position safety, mean the rifle can be configured and run comfortably by both right- and left-handed shooters without modification.

Who It Is For

The Barrett MRAD Covert suits precision rifle shooters, hunters, and tactical professionals who need a long-range rifle that travels well. Its folding stock and moderate 17-inch barrel make it easier to transport than a traditional fixed-stock precision rifle, without giving up the accuracy that comes from a match grade barrel and two-stage trigger. Shooters browsing our Rifles selection for a do-it-all 308 Win platform will find the MRAD Covert equally at home on a square range, at a precision rifle match, or packed out to a remote hunting or observation position.

It’s also a strong fit for shooters who already run other platforms from Barrett official site and want the same build quality and reliability in a more compact package. Law enforcement and military users benefit from the discreet folded profile for vehicle storage and low-visibility transport, while civilian long-range shooters appreciate the ability to break the rifle down for travel to matches or hunting camps. Anyone who values a rifle that sets up quickly, holds zero, and delivers consistent accuracy shot after shot will find the MRAD Covert a capable, dependable choice for demanding 308 Win applications.

Why Choose This

Choosing the Barrett MRAD Covert means getting a proven bolt-action platform re-engineered for portability without cutting corners on accuracy.
