Copper bullets are typically longer than lead-core bullets of the same weight, so confirm your rifle’s twist rate stabilizes this load and check accuracy at 100 and 200 yards before heading into the field.

Why an All Copper LRX Bullet Makes Sense

An all copper LRX bullet is designed to open reliably at the lower impact velocities found at longer range, while still holding together on close shots. Because there is no lead core, it retains nearly all of its weight and penetrates deeply, which matters on large, tough animals such as elk.

The 280 Ackley Improved blows out the shoulder of the 280 Remington for more powder capacity and velocity, landing close to 7mm magnum performance in a standard-length action. Factory 280 Ackley improved ammo has historically been hard to find, so a premium option like this is a welcome addition for owners of the cartridge.

Barnes has built bullets in Mona, Utah since 1932 and pioneered the all-copper hunting bullet. Its factory ammunition is loaded to the same exacting standards as its component bullets, so you get consistent velocities and tight groups from box to box.

Elk, mule deer, whitetail and pronghorn hunters who carry a rifle chambered in 280 Ackley Improved will get the most from this long range hunting load. Always confirm your rifle is chambered for 280 Ackley Improved, verify your zero with the same lot you plan to use, and follow all federal, state and local regulations.

Store this ammunition in a cool, dry place in the original box so the lot number stays with it. Before the season or match, shoot groups at 100 yards and confirm your drops at longer distances using the Barnes ballistics above as a starting point, since your rifle’s actual velocity may differ.
