Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 44 Rem Mag 225gr XPB is factory handgun ammunition built for hunting and woods carry rather than the range. Barnes loads a solid copper XPB hollow point that leaves the muzzle at roughly 1235 fps carrying about 762 ft-lbs of energy. In the most popular hunting revolver cartridge in America, an all copper bullet that refuses to come apart is a very sensible choice. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 44 Rem Mag 225gr XPB Overview
The XPB is machined from solid copper with a large hollow cavity and no lead core at all. Revolver velocities are modest compared to a rifle, and that is exactly where conventional jacketed bullets struggle. A soft lead core arriving at 1200 fps into heavy shoulder bone can flatten out and stall, while a copper bullet keeps its shank and keeps driving.
On impact the nose opens into sharp copper petals that reach roughly double the original diameter and stay attached to the base. Weight retention is effectively total, which is what produces the straight, deep wound channels this bullet is known for.
225 Grain XPB Hollow Point Performance
At 225 grains this is lighter than the 240 and 300 grain bullets most 44 shooters are used to, and that is intentional. Copper needs velocity to open, and dropping weight buys the speed that makes expansion reliable. A heavy copper bullet at low velocity behaves more like a solid than a hollow point.
Because copper is less dense than lead, a 225 grain XPB is longer than a 225 grain lead core bullet would be. Barnes has already sorted overall length, crimp and powder charge in this factory loading, so cylinder fit and bullet jump under recoil are not your problem.
Why Hunters Choose 44 Remington Magnum Hunting Ammo
The 44 Remington Magnum is the benchmark hunting revolver cartridge and has been since 1955. It kills deer and hogs cleanly, it is available everywhere, and it is chambered in everything from a Ruger Super Blackhawk to a lever action carbine. Out of a rifle barrel this load picks up meaningful velocity and stretches its useful range considerably.
Where this 44 Remington Magnum hunting ammo earns its keep is on animals that need penetration through bone. A lead core hollow point built for defense will expand dramatically and stop short; this bullet expands and still exits. That is the trade most hunters want.
Recoil is honest. In a lightweight revolver a full power 44 load is genuinely unpleasant, and most people shoot a heavy framed gun far better. Practice with what you carry.

Range Notes For This All Copper Handgun Bullet
Published velocity comes from a test barrel. A 4 inch revolver runs meaningfully slower than a 7.5 inch, and a lever action carbine runs considerably faster. Since the Barnes VOR-TX 44 Rem Mag 225gr XPB depends on velocity to open, barrel length matters more here than it would with a lead core bullet.
If you shoot this in a lever gun, check feeding before you rely on it. The copper bullet profile is not identical to the round nose ammunition most tube magazine rifles are fed, and a few actions are particular about it.
Barnes packs the load 20 rounds to a box, which covers sighting in and a hunt. A second box for practice is worth it, especially in a revolver. Store them cool and dry and they will stay reliable for years.
