Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 338 Win Mag 210gr TTSX BT is the lighter and faster of the two Barnes copper loads for the 338 Winchester Magnum. It leaves the muzzle at roughly 2865 fps carrying about 3828 ft-lbs of energy, behind a 0.482 ballistic coefficient. It is still carrying close to 2500 ft-lbs at 300 yards, which is more than most cartridges produce at the muzzle. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 338 Win Mag 210gr TTSX BT Overview
The projectile is machined from a solid copper billet, so there is no lead core to separate and no jacket to strip off on heavy bone. A polymer tip caps the hollow nose, survives magazine recoil in a hard kicking rifle, and drives rearward on impact to start expansion immediately.
The nose opens into four sharp copper petals at roughly double the original diameter and stays attached to the shank. On a 338 caliber bullet that is a very large frontal area, and weight retention stays close to 100 percent.
210 Grain TTSX Boat Tail Performance
Barnes loads two weights in this cartridge and the choice is genuinely close. This 210 grain starts 65 fps faster and carries a marginally higher ballistic coefficient; the 225 grain carries about 90 more ft-lbs at the muzzle and slightly more sectional density. For elk and open country this one has the edge; for moose and big bear in timber, the heavier load does.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the projectile. Those grooves reduce bore contact, lowering pressure and cutting copper fouling from a long solid bullet at magnum velocity.
Why Hunters Choose 338 Winchester Magnum Elk Ammo
The 338 Winchester Magnum fits a standard length magnum action, feeds reliably, and delivers big bore energy without the size or expense of a true dangerous game rifle. It is the cartridge a lot of Alaskan guides keep in the boat and one of the most sensible all round choices for moose, elk and brown bear.
What this 338 Winchester Magnum elk ammo offers at 210 grains is reach. The lighter bullet shoots noticeably flatter than the 225 grain load and holds enough energy at 400 yards for any elk standing there, which suits open country hunting better than the heavier option.
Recoil is substantial. A rifle in the nine pound class with a quality pad, or a brake if you tolerate the noise, turns range sessions into ordinary practice rather than an endurance test.

Range Notes For This All Copper Magnum Bullet
An all copper magnum bullet prints to a different point of impact than the lead core ammunition your rifle was probably sighted in with. Zero with this exact load, foul a clean barrel with a round or two first, then leave the scope alone.
Twist rate is not a concern. Every 338 Winchester Magnum barrel runs 1 in 10, which stabilizes a 210 grain copper bullet without difficulty.
At 2865 fps the Barnes VOR-TX 338 Win Mag 210gr TTSX stays above reliable expansion speed well past 450 yards in most barrels, which covers any shot that should be taken on game this size. Let the barrel cool between strings and store the ammunition cool and dry.
