Description
Atomic 9mm Subsonic 147gr Bonded is the rare subsonic load that gives up nothing to get there. A 147 grain bonded match hollow point at 900 feet per second, fifty rounds to the box, part number 00438. In the 9mm, subsonic is not a compromise.

Why Subsonic Works in 9mm and Not in a Rifle
This is the distinction worth understanding. When you load a rifle cartridge down below the sound barrier you drop it from roughly 2,700 fps to around 1,050, and a bullet designed for the higher speed will not expand at the lower one. You end up with a projectile that punches a calibre sized hole and nothing more.
The 9mm has no such problem, because 147 grain bullets are already subsonic in normal factory loadings. This is a mainstream defensive bullet weight running at its intended velocity, not a detuned version of something else. Atomic 9mm Subsonic 147gr Bonded expands because the bullet was designed to expand at exactly this speed.
Add the bonded construction and you have a bullet with the jacket chemically fused to the core, so it holds together through clothing or an intermediate barrier rather than shedding its core and stopping short. That is a genuine defensive load that happens to be quiet downrange, rather than a quiet load pretending to be defensive.
Atomic 9mm Subsonic 147gr Bonded Specifications
Figures for Atomic 9mm Subsonic 147gr Bonded are as published by Atomic Ammunition for part number 00438. A 147 grain bullet at 900 fps works out to roughly 264 foot-pounds at the muzzle, which is normal for the weight and not the number that matters in a defensive handgun load.
Recoil from Atomic 9mm Subsonic 147gr Bonded feels different from a light, fast 9mm. A heavy bullet at modest speed gives a longer push rather than a sharp snap, and many shooters track the sights better through it. Whether you prefer it to a 124 grain load is worth finding out with a box rather than an argument.
Fifty rounds of Atomic 9mm Subsonic 147gr Bonded to the box is the useful part. Premium bonded defensive ammunition is usually sold twenty or twenty five at a time, which is why so many people carry a load they have fired a handful of. At fifty you can shoot enough to know it feeds and where it prints.

Suppressors, Cycling and Practical Notes
On the suppressor question, we should be plain. Subsonic ammunition is what a suppressor needs to be genuinely quiet, because it removes the sonic crack the can cannot do anything about. MAG5 Firearms does not hold an SOT and does not sell suppressors or any other NFA item, so we stock the ammunition for people who already own one rather than as half of a package we can complete.
Without a suppressor, Atomic 9mm Subsonic 147gr Bonded is still worth having. The muzzle blast from a 147 grain subsonic load is softer than a fast 115 grain load, which makes it more pleasant at an indoor range and easier on anyone standing next to you.
Check that your pistol cycles Atomic 9mm Subsonic 147gr Bonded. Heavy subsonic bullets generate less slide velocity, and a compact pistol with a stiff recoil spring, or a gun with an aftermarket heavy spring fitted for plus P, can short stroke on them. Most modern 9mm pistols run 147 grain ammunition without complaint, but run a couple of magazines through your actual carry gun before trusting it.
Rotate your carry rounds rather than re-chambering the same one indefinitely. Repeated chambering pushes the bullet deeper into the case, and setback raises pressure.
Practise with something cheap and keep this for carry and verification. Our Federal Champion 9mm 124 grain FMJ covers the volume work, and our Atomic 9mm +P 124 grain bonded is the faster, lighter alternative in the same bonded family if you prefer a snappier load.
Atomic 9mm Subsonic 147gr Bonded suits the shooter who wants a heavy, bonded defensive bullet with a soft push, and it is the sensible choice for a suppressed 9mm host. Confirm your pistol cycles it, shoot enough to know where it prints, then carry it. Ships from our licensed inventory in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, with adult signature required on delivery.
One more practical point about heavy 9mm bullets. A 147 grain load sits longer in the case than a 115 grain one, and a few older magazines and some very compact guns feed the longer profile less willingly. It is rarely a problem in a modern pistol, but it is another reason to test rather than assume.
Store it somewhere with a stable temperature and keep carry ammunition out of a hot car over a summer. Ammunition that has been heat cycled for months is the ammunition most likely to surprise you on a chronograph.
