Description

ATI 410 Gauge BBB Buckshot 12 Pellet 2-1/2 inch 410 buckshot shells with box

ATI 410 Gauge BBB Buckshot 12 Pellet is a light-recoiling 410 buckshot load from American Tactical, better known as ATI. Each 2-1/2 inch shell carries 12 pellets of BBB buck, 1/3 oz in total, at a published 1,400 fps. ATI packs it 25 shells to a box and 10 boxes to a 250 round case.

Who Makes ATI 410 Gauge BBB Buckshot 12 Pellet

American Tactical, Inc. is a Summerville, South Carolina based importer and manufacturer best known for its firearms, including Omni Hybrid rifles and a range of shotguns. ATI also sells a line of shotgun and rifle ammunition under its own name, and ATI 410 Gauge BBB Buckshot 12 Pellet is one of its most popular 410 gauge shells.

BBB buck is a small buckshot size, about 0.19 inches per pellet. That lets ATI fit 12 pellets into a 2-1/2 inch 410 hull, which is more pellets than the larger 000 buck loads you often see in 410 defense shells. More, smaller pellets give a denser pattern; fewer, larger pellets give more penetration per pellet. Each approach has its trade-offs.

The 410 bore has enjoyed a revival in recent years, partly because of revolvers chambered for both 45 Colt and 410 shells and partly because of lightweight pump and single-shot shotguns aimed at new shooters. That has pushed ammunition makers to offer more buckshot options in this small gauge, and ATI 410 Gauge BBB Buckshot 12 Pellet is one of the more affordable choices.

Specifications and Performance

The published specification is 2-1/2 inch shell length, 1/3 oz payload, 12 pellets of BBB buck and a muzzle velocity of 1,400 fps. Retail listings describe the hull as plastic with a brass-coloured head. ATI does not publish pattern or penetration data.

Recoil from 410 gauge shells is mild compared with a 20 or 12 gauge, which is why many people choose the 410 for smaller-framed shooters. The trade-off is payload: a 1/3 oz charge is far lighter than a 12 gauge buckshot load, so shot placement matters a great deal.

Check that your firearm is chambered for 2-1/2 inch 410 shells before you load. Most 410 shotguns accept both 2-1/2 and 3 inch shells, but some revolvers and older guns accept only 2-1/2 inch. Never fire a shell longer than the chamber marking on your barrel.

Field Notes

If you are buying 410 buckshot as home defense shotgun ammo, test it in your own gun. Shoot a few rounds at 7, 10 and 15 yards on paper to see the spread. Short revolver barrels and long shotgun barrels pattern very differently, and rifled revolver barrels in particular can open patterns quickly.

Penetration with small buckshot is limited compared with larger pellets. Many defensive trainers prefer 000 buck or a slug in 410 for that reason, while others like the denser pattern of smaller shot. Read independent gel testing if this is your primary defensive load, and make an informed choice.

For pest control and small game at close range, ATI 410 Gauge BBB Buckshot 12 Pellet works well within about 25 yards. Beyond that the pellets lose energy quickly. Check your state hunting regulations, as some states restrict buckshot for certain game.

Because buckshot pellets travel well beyond the distance at which they are effective, know what is behind your target. That applies equally on the range, around the farm and in the home, where interior walls will not reliably stop pellets.

Store shells somewhere cool and dry. Buyers must be at least 18 for shotgun ammunition, and some states add background checks or other rules for ammunition purchases.
