Description

ATI 20 Gauge Game Load 1 oz 5 Shot is a straightforward 20 gauge hunting shell from American Tactical. Each 2-3/4 inch shell carries 1 oz of number 5 lead shot at a published 1,220 fps, and the box is labelled for rabbit and pheasant. ATI packs it 25 shells to a box and 10 boxes to a 250 round case.
Who Makes ATI 20 Gauge Game Load 1 oz 5 Shot
American Tactical, Inc., usually shortened to ATI, is based in Summerville, South Carolina. It is best known for firearms such as its shotguns and Omni Hybrid rifles, and it also sells a budget-friendly line of shotgun shells and rifle ammunition under its own name.
The ATI Game Load range covers 12 and 20 gauge in several shot sizes. ATI 20 Gauge Game Load 1 oz 5 Shot sits at the heavier end of the 20 gauge options, with a full 1 oz payload and number 5 shot. That is a sensible all-round choice for pheasant loads and rabbit hunting, where you want a little more pellet energy than you get from number 7.5 or 8 target shot.
Number 5 lead shot measures about 0.12 inches and there are roughly 170 pellets in an ounce. That gives a good balance between pattern density and the energy each pellet carries at typical upland ranges.
Specifications and Performance
The published specification is 20 gauge, 2-3/4 inch shell, 2.75 dram equivalent, 1 oz of number 5 shot and a muzzle velocity of 1,220 fps. That is a typical field load, not a high velocity magnum, so recoil is moderate in most 20 gauge guns.
For pheasants, many hunters keep shots inside about 35 to 40 yards with a 1 oz load. For rabbits and squirrels, shots are usually closer. An improved cylinder or modified choke is a good starting point; pattern your gun with this load to see what it really does.

Field Notes
These shells use lead shot, so they cannot be used for waterfowl, which require non-toxic shot under federal law. Some states and many public hunting areas also require non-toxic shot for upland birds, so check local rules before you take this upland hunting ammo into the field.
Your shotgun must be chambered for 2-3/4 inch or longer 20 gauge shells. Never load 20 gauge shells into a 12 gauge gun. A 20 gauge shell can slip past the chamber and lodge in the barrel, and firing a 12 gauge shell behind it can cause a dangerous barrel failure. Keep 20 and 12 gauge shells separated in your vest.
If you hunt pheasants late in the season, when birds flush wild and further out, consider a heavier or faster load in a larger shot size. For early season birds over dogs and for rabbits flushed from cover, a 1 oz load of number 5 lead shot in a 20 gauge is plenty, and the lighter gun is far easier to carry all day.
For clay targets and practice, a lighter number 7.5 or 8 target load is cheaper and kinder on the shoulder. Use ATI 20 Gauge Game Load 1 oz 5 Shot when you are hunting, and pattern it before the season so you know where it prints.
Store shells cool and dry. Buyers must be at least 18 for shotgun ammunition, and some states add extra rules for ammunition purchases.
