Description
The ArmaLite M-15 DEF15 Defensive Rifle is a lightweight, no-frills AR-15 in 5.56 NATO with a 16-inch chrome-moly-vanadium barrel, a 6-position collapsible stock, and a 30-round magazine. It is built for shooters who want a dependable rifle from a name with real history, without paying for features they will not use.
ArmaLite M-15 DEF15 Defensive Rifle Overview
ArmaLite is the company where the original AR-10 and AR-15 designs were born in the 1950s, and today it builds a full line of M-15 and AR-10 rifles. The Defensive Sporting Rifle is its streamlined entry point. ArmaLite describes it as well suited for duty, sport, or defense, and it delivers just that: forged mil-spec 7075 receivers, a fixed gas system with a Picatinny gas block, a mil-spec single-stage trigger, and a flat-top upper ready for your choice of optic. At about 6.1 pounds, it is light and handy for its class.
Barrel and Gas System
The 16-inch CrMoV barrel has a 1:7 twist, which stabilizes a wide range of bullet weights, from 55-grain range ammo to heavier 62 and 77-grain loads. Its nitride treatment hardens the bore and resists corrosion, giving long barrel life with less cleaning fuss than bare steel. The fixed gas system uses a Picatinny gas block, which lets you mount a front sight or accessory there. A standard flash suppressor is installed on the muzzle.
Receivers and Trigger
Both upper and lower receivers are forged from mil-spec 7075 aluminum and finished in black hardcoat anodizing. Because they follow mil-spec dimensions, nearly any standard AR-15 part or accessory will fit, so upgrading the trigger, grip, or handguard later is simple. The single-stage mil-spec trigger is gritty compared to premium drop-in units but is reliable, and it is one of the easiest parts to upgrade.
Optics Ready
The flat-top upper has a full MIL-STD 1913 rail, but the rifle ships without sights. Plan on a red dot, a low-power variable scope, or a set of backup iron sights. A quality red dot is the most popular choice for home defense and general use.
Stock, Handguard and Ergonomics
The 6-position collapsible stock adjusts length of pull for different shooters, body armor, or winter clothing. Overall length runs from 32 inches collapsed to about 35.3 inches extended. The short polymer handguard keeps weight down, though shooters who want lights, lasers, or a longer grip will likely upgrade to a free-float rail.
Magazine
The rifle ships with a 30-round Magpul PMAG and accepts standard AR-15 magazines. In states with capacity limits, you will need compliant magazines before taking delivery.
Care and Maintenance
Keep the bolt carrier group well lubricated, clean the bolt and chamber after range sessions, and check that the castle nut and gas key stay tight. With basic care, this rifle will run for many thousands of rounds.
State Laws
Several states restrict AR-15 rifles, flash suppressors, collapsible stocks, or magazine capacity. Check your local regulations before ordering, and your receiving FFL dealer can help confirm this rifle is legal where you live.
