Description

Between the carry-length 3.5-inch and the full-size 5-inch sits the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 4.25 comp, and for most shooters it is the one that makes the most sense. The barrel is long enough to hold a useful sight radius, short enough to conceal under a jacket, and it comes compensated from the factory. This listing ships as a five-magazine bundle, which is enough to run a full club match out of the box.

A Compensated 4.25-Inch Bull Barrel

4.25-inch SUS416 stainless bull barrel with a 1:10 twist, finished in DLC black.

Factory compensator on the muzzle bleeds gas upward so the sight or dot settles faster between shots.

Frame and slide are SUS416 stainless in matching DLC black, a hard surface that resists corrosion and wipes clean.

Front and rear slide serrations with anti-glare serrations across the top of the slide.

Machined Aluminum Grip and the MOS Plate System

Machined aluminum grip module with an assembled magwell, stiffer than polymer and noticeably steadier under recoil.

MOS adapter cut with P1 (Trijicon RMR pattern) and P2 (Holosun pattern) plates supplied, so the optic decision stays reversible.

Standard front sight cut forward of the optic pocket.

Fully ambidextrous controls suit left- and right-handed shooters equally.

Part number AA47X1CIG-XDBK19.

Barrel length on a double-stack 1911 is a trade rather than an upgrade. Go to 5 inches and you gain sight radius and a little velocity, but the gun prints under a shirt. Drop to 3.5 inches and it hides well while giving up dwell time and muzzle weight. The 4.25-inch splits the difference, and adding a compensator claws back most of the recovery speed the shorter slide would otherwise cost. That is the whole argument for the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 4.25 comp.

Why it is worth considering

  • Compensated and threaded from the factory, no gunsmithing required.
  • Machined aluminum grip module with an integrated magwell.
  • Two optic adapter plates included, covering Trijicon and Holosun footprints.
  • Five magazines in the bundle, so a match day needs no spares.
  • SUS416 stainless throughout with a DLC black finish.

Who it suits

Competition shooters and everyday carriers both land on this length for the same reason: it gives up the least. The Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 4.25 comp will run a USPSA stage and still ride in an inside-the-waistband holster, and the five magazines take the sting out of stocking up. As with any comped pistol, expect more noise and gas to the sides, so shoot it a few times before deciding where it lives.

How It Compares Inside the Romulus Line

Alpha Foxtrot builds the Romulus in 3.5-inch, 4.25-inch and 5-inch lengths, with standard, threaded or compensated barrels and with a polymer or aluminum grip module. Want the same aluminum grip and compensator in a shorter package? See the 3.5-inch five-magazine bundle or the 3.5-inch standard pairing. Prefer a full-size sight radius instead, with no comp? Compare the 5-inch polished build. Specifications are published by the maker at Alpha Foxtrot.

Ammunition selection changes how hard a compensator works. Heavier bullets produce more gas and flatten the gun further, so 124-grain and 147-grain loads usually outperform light target ammunition behind a comp. A 124-grain jacketed hollow point makes a sound defensive load, with 115-grain full metal jacket kept for practice volume. All firearm orders ship to a licensed FFL dealer for transfer, and MAG5 Firearms will coordinate the paperwork with the dealer of your choice.
