Description
Akkar Ranch Hand 28GA Pump Shotgun
The Akkar Ranch Hand 28GA pump-action shotgun brings classic sub-gauge performance to hunters who want lighter recoil without sacrificing range in the field. Built around a 3 inch chamber and a 28 inch vent-rib barrel, this shotgun handles light target loads and full hunting shells with ease. The smooth-cycling pump action stays simple to run in cold weather or with gloves on, and the vent rib reduces barrel heat mirage while improving sight alignment on fast-moving birds. Every Ranch Hand ships ready for the field, with the accessories a serious wingshooter needs already included.
Weighing 6.12 pounds with a 46 inch overall length, the Ranch Hand balances quickly for close-flushing birds while carrying enough heft to stay steady on longer crossing shots. The stock and forend are molded from black synthetic polymer, chosen for its resistance to rain, mud, and the everyday abuse of a hard hunting season. Textured checkering on the grip and forend keeps hold secure even when hands are wet or cold, and the field-style stock profile points naturally for fast target acquisition. A rubber recoil pad at the heel helps tame felt recoil across a full day of shooting.
Key Features and Benefits
The 28 gauge platform is a favorite among experienced wingshooters who want a shotgun that swings faster and carries lighter than a 12 or 20 gauge without giving up genuine field performance. The Akkar Ranch Hand channels that reputation into an affordable pump gun equally at home on a dove field, a quail hunt, or a round of sporting clays. Recoil is noticeably softer than larger gauges, meaning less fatigue over a long day and faster follow-up shots when a covey flushes. For younger or smaller-framed shooters, the reduced report and recoil make this an ideal shotgun for building confidence.
Versatility comes standard with this shotgun. The 28 inch vent-rib barrel accepts interchangeable internal choke tubes, and the Ranch Hand ships with 3 choke tubes so shooters can tune their pattern to the task at hand, whether that means an open choke for close-flushing pheasant or a tighter constriction for pass-shooting ducks. The vent rib dissipates heat and cuts down on distracting mirage during long strings on the clays course. Combined with a 3 inch chamber, the barrel handles a wide range of factory 28 gauge loads, giving hunters and clay shooters one gun that adapts to nearly any scenario.
Built for hard field use, the Ranch Hand pairs a durable black metal finish with a synthetic stock that will not warp, crack, or absorb moisture the way a wood stock can after repeated exposure to rain and humidity. The checkered grip panels stay functional season after season, and because there is no bluing or wood finish to maintain, upkeep is limited to a quick wipe-down and occasional light oiling of the action. At 6.12 pounds, the shotgun is light enough to carry comfortably across miles of cover yet substantial enough to point smoothly and settle on target.

Who It Is For
The Akkar Ranch Hand 28GA is built for hunters who already own a 12 or 20 gauge and want a second shotgun dedicated to lighter, more enjoyable days afield. Upland hunters chasing quail, pheasant, or grouse will appreciate how quickly the gun swings on close flushes, while dove hunters benefit from reduced recoil across the many shots a good dove shoot demands. Shooters browsing our full lineup of Shotguns looking specifically for a sub-gauge pump gun will find the Ranch Hand a practical, budget-friendly option that does not ask them to compromise on reliability or fit and finish.
New shooters and youth hunters are another great fit, since the light recoil and manageable weight make it easier to focus on fundamentals like mount, swing, and follow-through instead of fighting the gun. Because it is a pump action, it is also a smart choice for anyone learning the discipline of cycling the action manually between shots.
