AGM PVS-14E 3AL1 Monocular Overview
The PVS-14 format is the most widely used night vision monocular in the world because it is light, rugged and versatile. AGM’s PVS-14E version weighs about 10.2 ounces and measures roughly 4.25 by 2.5 by 2.7 inches. It conforms to MIL-STD-810G, is waterproof and rugged, and operates from minus 60 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. A single AA or CR123 battery provides up to about 40 hours of runtime with the infrared illuminator off.
Image Intensifier Tube
The 3AL1 version uses a Gen 3 auto-gated Level 1 image intensifier tube with green phosphor. Gen 3 tubes use gallium arsenide photocathodes for greater sensitivity in very low light, and auto-gating protects the tube and keeps the image usable when light changes suddenly.
Compared with Gen 2+, a Gen 3 tube typically delivers a brighter, clearer image on moonless nights and under tree cover. Auto-gating reacts to bright sources such as headlights, flashlights or muzzle flash, reducing bloom and helping the image recover quickly. Green phosphor remains easy on the eyes for long observation.
Features
The monocular shuts off automatically when flipped up out of view on a head or helmet mount and turns back on when returned to position. Manual gain control lets you adjust brightness for conditions, and an automatic bright-light cut-off protects the tube. LED indicators in the field of view show low battery, infrared on and excessive light. Electronic polarity switching means the battery works in either orientation, and the built-in IR illuminator helps in total darkness.
