Description

A-Zoom 300 Blackout Snap Caps, red anodized aluminum AR-15 dummy rounds, 2 pack

A-Zoom 300 Blackout Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds cut to 300 AAC Blackout dimensions, two to a pack. Blackout uppers get built, rebuilt, suppressed and adjusted more than almost anything else on an AR-15, and every one of those changes deserves a function check with something inert.

How A-Zoom 300 Blackout Snap Caps Are Built

Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to full cartridge dimensions and hard anodized red. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body, so nothing shears off and leaves a case body in the chamber of a gas gun.

The primer end carries a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. It decelerates the firing pin roughly as a real primer would rather than letting it stop hard against the bolt face.

The red anodizing keeps A-Zoom 300 Blackout Snap Caps obviously inert. That matters more here than on most cartridges, because 300 Blackout and 5.56 share a case head and magazines, and a Blackout round in a 5.56 chamber is one of the few genuinely dangerous mix-ups in common shooting.

Why Blackout Builds Need Dummy Rounds

Subsonic Blackout is where the reliability problems live. Heavy 200 and 220 grain bullets seated long, a suppressor changing the gas curve and an adjustable gas block in the middle of it all make for a system with a lot of variables. Cycling A-Zoom 300 Blackout Snap Caps through the magazine by hand isolates the feeding half of that equation from the gas half.

Magazine checking is the other job. Blackout runs in standard 5.56 magazines, but the fat 30 caliber bullet sits differently in the stack, and some magazines present subsonic rounds far better than others. A pair of dummies sorts that out in a minute.

Handloaders will get a third use out of them. Blackout handloads live or die on seating depth against magazine length, and comparing your own rounds against a known-dimension dummy is faster than measuring each one.

Field Notes

Use them for suppressor setup. Confirming that a bolt carrier group, buffer and adjustable gas block combination locks up correctly on a chambered round is a bench task, and it is much quieter with A-Zoom 300 Blackout Snap Caps than with live ammunition.

They are also the right tool for teaching magazine discipline. Since Blackout and 5.56 magazines are interchangeable, drilling the habit of marking and separating magazines is worth doing, and inert rounds make that practice safe.

The polymer cushion is a wear item. When the face is visibly cratered and stops rebounding, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.

Building in other AR chamberings? The line also covers 223 Remington in a ten pack and 458 SOCOM. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.

For anyone building or suppressing a 300 Blackout upper, A-Zoom 300 Blackout Snap Caps make feed and function testing quick. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA12271 in the two pack.
