Description
The Savage Mark II F 17 HM2 is a bolt-action rimfire rifle with a 21-inch sporter carbon steel barrel, a black synthetic stock, a 10-round detachable box magazine, and a user-adjustable trigger. It weighs about 5.5 lbs and is built for accurate, dependable shooting.
Savage Mark II F 17 HM2 Overview
The Mark II is one of the most popular rimfire bolt-action rifles ever made, prized for its accuracy, simple and reliable action, and Savage’s user-adjustable trigger. The 17 HM2, also called the 17 Mach 2, is a necked-down 22 LR case that drives a light bullet much faster and flatter than standard 22 rounds, so it is a quiet, inexpensive choice for squirrels and small pests out to about 125 yards.
Barrel and Action
The 21-inch carbon steel sporter barrel is button-rifled for uniform grooves and consistent accuracy, with a 1:9 twist matched to 17 HM2 bullets. The sporter profile keeps the rifle light and well balanced for carrying in the field.
Stock and Fit
The black matte synthetic stock is tough, lightweight, and weather resistant, so it will not swell or warp in rain or humidity. It shrugs off bumps in the truck and drops at the range.
Optics Ready
Two-piece Weaver-style bases come installed, so mounting a rimfire scope is quick and simple.
User-Adjustable Trigger
Savage’s user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you set your own pull weight for a crisp, clean break, a big advantage on small targets. The center safety blade helps prevent accidental discharge, and the light, predictable pull helps new shooters build good habits.
Magazine and Handling
The 10-round detachable box magazine loads easily and drops free for quick, safe unloading between stands or at the end of a range session. Spare magazines make practice days more productive.
In the Field
Rimfire rifles often prefer one load over another, so try a few brands of 17 HM2 to see which groups best in your barrel. Lighter, faster bullets are great for small pests, while heavier bullets buck the wind better. Pair the rifle with a quality rimfire scope and a steady rest, and you will be surprised how far you can make precise hits.
Care and Cleaning
Rimfire ammunition leaves more fouling than most centerfire loads, so a little routine care keeps the Savage Mark II F 17 HM2 running smoothly and shooting accurately. After a range session, wipe down the bolt and chamber area, run a few patches through the bore, and put a light coat of oil on exposed metal. Store the rifle in a dry place and it will give you years of dependable service.
