The Sig Sauer P229 Enhanced Elite is the compact P-series pistol with the upgrades SIG normally charges extra for fitted as standard. Shorter than a P226 by half an inch of barrel and slightly taller in the hand than it looks, the P229 has spent thirty years as the plainclothes and detective gun of choice for federal agencies. What Enhanced Elite Adds
The headline item is the Short Reset Trigger. In a traditional double action / single action pistol the trigger must travel a long way forward before it resets, and that distance is where split times go to die. The SRT cuts it substantially. On the Sig Sauer P229 Enhanced Elite that turns a duty trigger into something closer to a competition one without changing the pull weight or the safety characteristics.
The Sig Sauer P229 Enhanced Elite frame gets a contoured beavertail and a checkered front strap. The beavertail lets the hand ride higher, lowering the bore axis relative to the grip and reducing muzzle flip; the checkering gives the support hand something to index against under recoil. Both are normally aftermarket work. The one-piece E2 grip shortens the reach to the trigger in double action, which is the P229’s historic weak point for smaller hands.

Compact, But Not Light
A compact DA/SA 9mm built this way is a specific trade. The Sig Sauer P229 Enhanced Elite weighs more than a full-size polymer pistol despite being shorter, because the slide is machined stainless and the frame is alloy rather than plastic. That mass is why it shoots so softly: 34.4 ounces absorbs a great deal of 9mm recoil, and the pistol barely moves between shots.
The 3.9-inch barrel and 5.7-inch sight radius on the Sig Sauer P229 Enhanced Elite cost you a little precision at distance compared with a P226, and buy you a pistol that clears a holster faster and prints less under a jacket. This is the balance point SIG found in 1991 and has not really needed to move since.
SIGLITE night sights come fitted as standard. Tritium vials glow unaided in a dark room, unlike fibre optic sights which need ambient light to work, and they keep glowing for the ten to twelve year life of the vials. On a pistol likely to be used for defence rather than sport, that is the right choice of sight.

Honest Caveats Before You Buy
Capacity is the headline compromise on the Sig Sauer P229 Enhanced Elite. Ten rounds is what a P229 California compliant build ships with, and it is well short of the 15 rounds a standard P229 magazine holds. Outside California those standard magazines drop straight in, so a Pennsylvania buyer is not stuck at ten. Inside California you are, and that is the deal.
No optics cut. This is not an R2 or optic-ready model, so the slide is solid and a red dot means sending it out for milling. If mounting a dot is part of your plan, buy a model that already has the cut rather than paying a gunsmith and voiding the finish warranty on the Sig Sauer P229 Enhanced Elite.
It is heavy for its size. Thirty-four and a half ounces in a compact frame surprises people who expect a small gun to be a light gun. The weight is the reason it shoots well, and it is also the reason a good gunbelt is mandatory rather than optional. Carrying this on a thin dress belt is miserable.
And the double action still needs work. The Short Reset Trigger fixes the reset, not the first pull, which is long and heavy by design. Budget range time for it. The Sig Sauer P229 Enhanced Elite rewards a shooter who trains the DA press and frustrates one who does not.
Who it suits: shooters who want a hammer-fired compact with real weight behind it, California buyers who need a roster-legal P229 without giving up the Elite upgrades, and anyone who values a Short Reset Trigger and SIGLITE night sights fitted from the factory rather than added later.
