Trijicon HD XR Sights Glock Orange Accurate 3 Dot Night Set

Description

Orange is the one most people reach for. The Trijicon HD XR Sights Glock Orange set is Trijicon GL601-C-600836, identical in geometry to the yellow front version and different only in the colour of the ring around the front lamp. If you have ever picked up a pistol wearing an orange front sight and found it instantly, this is why the option exists.

Why Orange, and What XR Adds to the Trijicon HD XR Sights Glock Orange Set

Human eyes are unusually good at separating orange from natural backgrounds. Woodland greens and browns, grey concrete, blue sky, most indoor walls, orange stands apart from all of them. That is the reason hunter safety clothing is blaze orange and the reason so many competition and duty shooters end up with an orange front sight. The Trijicon HD XR Sights Glock Orange set puts an orange outline ring around the front tritium lamp and blacks out the rear, so there is exactly one bright reference in the sight picture.

XR is the other half of the story. The front post on these is narrower than the one on the standard HD sights. A wide post is quick to find but it buries the target at distance and hides where your shots are landing. The thinner front post leaves target visible on both sides, which matters from about twenty five yards out and matters a great deal past fifty. Trijicon developed it at the request of law enforcement agencies who wanted better target identification at longer range.

Build quality is the usual Trijicon standard. Green tritium lamps capped with sapphire jewels to spread the light and keep solvent and grit off the glass, aluminium cylinders around each assembly, silicone cushions underneath to take the slide shock. The tritium in the Trijicon HD XR Sights Glock Orange set carries the same twelve year warranty as the rest of the range.

Honest Notes on the Trijicon HD XR Sights Glock Orange Set

Orange has one weakness worth naming: an orange target. Steel painted orange, an orange shirt, autumn leaves, a brick wall in late sun. In those situations the front sight blends instead of separating, and the yellow version of this sight is the better choice. It is a narrow case, but if you shoot a lot of painted steel it is not hypothetical.

The thinner post is also a trade rather than a straight upgrade. Narrow is more precise and slower to acquire; wide is faster and less precise. If everything you shoot is inside fifteen yards at speed, the original HD with the fatter front post will serve you better than the Trijicon HD XR Sights Glock Orange set will. Buy XR because you shoot at distance, not because the model name sounds newer.

Trijicon recommends professional installation on these and it is sound advice. The Glock rear dovetail is a press fit and the front sight nut strips easily. Expect to pay a gunsmith a small fee, then confirm zero on paper afterwards because a change in front sight height moves point of impact at range. And treat the tritium as a consumable: brightness halves at roughly twelve years, which is exactly why the warranty runs twelve years rather than for life.
