Description
The Trijicon RMR Type 2 Automatic LED Sight is the RMR with no buttons at all. A light sensor reads the ambient conditions and sets the dot brightness for you, continuously, and there is nothing for you to adjust or forget. A 3.25 MOA red dot in the same proven forged aluminium housing. Part RM01-C-700600.

The Case For No Controls
Every control is a thing that can be set wrong. A manual brightness setting can be left too dim after a night session and discovered at noon, or left too bright and blooming in a dark hallway. Buttons can be pressed by a holster, a seatbelt, or a jacket.
The Trijicon RMR Type 2 Automatic LED Sight has none of those failure modes because it has none of those parts. You pick it up and the dot is already at a sensible brightness for the light you are standing in. For a pistol that is carried rather than tuned, that is a real advantage.
What You Give Up
Control, in the cases where the sensor gets it wrong. Shooting from a dark room out into bright daylight, or into a low sun, or against snow, are all situations where a shooter with buttons can force the dot brighter and you cannot.
It also means no night vision setting and no way to power the optic down for storage. If either of those matters to you, buy the adjustable LED version instead. The Trijicon RMR Type 2 Automatic LED Sight is a deliberate simplification, and simplification always costs something.
Battery Expectations Are Different
Trijicon rates this model at up to two years of typical use and up to five years in dark storage, measured at seventy degrees Fahrenheit. The adjustable version quotes over four years of continuous use at a middle setting, and the two numbers are not measuring the same thing.
The practical reading is that a Trijicon RMR Type 2 Automatic LED Sight left in daylight works the sensor and the LED harder than one in a safe. Change the cell annually on a date you will remember rather than waiting for it to fade, and confirm zero afterwards since the battery sits underneath.

Type 2 Is The Generation That Matters
The original RMR built its reputation on toughness, but early units bolted directly to pistol slides could suffer electronics failures under the sharp reciprocating shock a slide delivers. Trijicon redesigned the internals specifically to solve that.
The Trijicon RMR Type 2 Automatic LED Sight carries that revision. If you are buying a miniature reflex to sit in a milled slide rather than on a rifle, the generation matters as much as the model name, and this is the current design rather than the old housing relabelled.
Why Shooters Choose The Trijicon RMR Type 2 Automatic LED Sight
- No buttons to set wrong, bump in a holster, or forget
- Sensor sets brightness continuously for the light you are in
- Type 2 electronics built to survive slide mounted use
- Patented housing shape that diverts impact away from the lens
- 3.25 MOA dot, the size most carry and duty shooters settle on
- 1.2 oz and under two inches long
Who It Is For
Concealed carry and duty users who want the optic to be one less thing to think about. Anyone issuing or lending a pistol, where a user may not know the controls. Shooters who have owned an adjustable optic and found they never touched the buttons except by accident.
It is the wrong choice if you use night vision, if you shoot in extreme lighting where you know the sensor will struggle, or if you like to power an optic down between sessions. For everyone else the Trijicon RMR Type 2 Automatic LED Sight removes a decision rather than taking something away.
The Housing And The Footprint
Trijicon patented the RMR body shape because the angled walls absorb a blow and route the load around the lens instead of through it. That is the failure that ends most miniature reflex sights dropped on concrete or knocked against a door frame.
Forged aluminium rather than cast, one and two tenths of an ounce, under two inches long. The Trijicon RMR Type 2 Automatic LED Sight uses the RMR mounting footprint, which is copied widely enough that it has become the de facto standard for pistol optic cuts and plates.
A Mount Is Not Included
The optic ships as an optic. On a pistol with a factory optics cut you need the correct RMR pattern plate for your slide. On an uncut pistol the slide must be milled or you fit a mount that replaces the rear sight. On a rifle or shotgun you need a picatinny mount at the height you want.
