Description
The Leupold Mark 4HD PR2-MIL 52mm in 4.5-18×52 is item 183626. It is the non-illuminated MIL scope in a family of three that this shop stocks, and the one to buy if you would rather not have a battery in your optic at all.
Where the Leupold Mark 4HD PR2-MIL 52mm sits among its siblings
Item 183626, this scope, has the M5C3 turret clicking in 0.1 MIL, the PR2-MIL reticle, and no illumination. Item 183624 is the same M5C3 MIL scope with an illuminated PR-1MIL reticle. Item 183625 uses an M1C3 turret with 1/4 MOA clicks and a PR2-MOA reticle.
If you work in milliradians, this and 183624 are your two. The choice between them is illumination against simplicity, and a denser PR2 grid against the lighter PR1 pattern.
If you work in minutes, none of that matters and 183625 is the scope you want. Mixing a MIL reticle with MOA turrets is how people miss under time pressure.
No battery, and what that buys you
There is no illumination module and no cell in the Leupold Mark 4HD PR2-MIL 52mm. Nothing to switch on, nothing to go flat in the cold, nothing to remember to carry a spare of. For a scope that lives in a drag bag and comes out in all weather, that is a real argument.
The cost is honest: at 4.5x a first focal plane reticle is fine, and in failing light you have nothing to help you find the centre. If you shoot the last half hour of light regularly, the illuminated version exists for exactly that reason.
This is a first focal plane scope, so the PR2-MIL subtensions are true at every magnification. A 1.8 MIL hold is 1.8 MIL at 8x and at 18x, which is the whole point.
Turrets, travel and parallax
Elevation is the M5C3: locking, with a revolution indicator and a set screw rezero. Windage is a zero-lock turret. Clicks are 0.1 MIL on both axes, matching the reticle, so what you read is what you dial.
Total elevation travel is 36 MIL, which is 125 MOA or 360 cm at 100 metres, at 10 MIL per revolution with a 28.7 MIL dial travel limit. Windage gives 18 MIL, or 65 MOA, also at 10 MIL per turn.
Precision side focus adjusts parallax down to 25 yards, which makes the scope genuinely usable for rimfire practice as well as centrefire work at distance.
Glass and dimensions
Magnification runs 4.5x to 18x behind a 52 mm objective on a 34 mm main tube. Eye relief is 3.6 inches at the bottom and 3.9 at the top. Field of view is 23.1 feet at 4.5x and 5.2 feet at 18x, per 100 yards.
The Leupold Mark 4HD PR2-MIL 52mm weighs 27.5 ounces and measures 14.6 inches, with 6.3 inches of mounting space split 1.9 front and 2.1 rear, a 5.1 inch objective section and a 2.4 inch bell.
Honest notes
One published oddity worth knowing. Leupold lists this non-illuminated scope at 27.5 ounces and the illuminated version at 27. An illumination module and a CR2032 do not make a scope lighter, so one of those two figures is wrong. We print both as published rather than pick.
The manufacturer publishes a custom BDC dial compatibility row for the illuminated sibling and not for this item. An absent row is not a stated no, so ask Leupold before planning on a custom dial. What is stated is that no BDC dial is included and the scope is not Custom Dial System compatible.
At 27.5 ounces plus 34 mm rings this is a supported-position optic rather than a carry gun scope. No finish colour, coating list or light transmission figure is published, so we print none of the three.
Who this scope suits
MIL shooters who want a full holdover grid and no electronics, precision rifle competitors, and anyone who shoots enough in the wet and cold to value one fewer thing that can fail. The Leupold Mark 4HD PR2-MIL 52mm is waterproof, fogproof and backed by the lifetime guarantee.
Skip it if you think in MOA, if you need a lit reticle for low light, or if you want the higher top end of the 6-24×52 version.
