Bond Arms Snake Slayer IV 45 Colt 410 Overview
Bond Arms builds its derringers in Granbury, Texas, from stainless steel. They are simple, strong and compact, and they are popular as backup guns, trail guns and collector pieces. The Snake Slayer line was built for exactly what the name says: a compact gun that rides on your belt on the farm, the ranch or the trail, loaded with .410 shot for snakes at close range.
Long Barrel, Full Grip
The 4.25 inch barrel is one of the longest Bond Arms makes, which adds velocity to .45 Colt and gives a longer sight radius than the shorter models. Paired with extended grips, it is one of the easiest Bond Arms pistols to shoot well with full power loads.
Two Barrels
Like other Bond Arms derringers, this pistol has two stacked barrels and fires one round from each. On standard Bond Arms frames, the barrel block can be swapped for barrels in other calibers, so one frame can cover several cartridges.
Safety and Action
Bond Arms pistols are single action, so you cock the hammer for each shot. A cross-bolt safety and a rebounding hammer add security. Bond Arms warns owners never to carry its handguns cocked and locked, so carry with the hammer down and follow the owner manual.
Grip and Frame
Extended rosewood grips give room for the whole hand and help manage recoil from .45 Colt and .410 shells. The all stainless frame and barrel are heavy for their size, which also helps keep muzzle rise in check.
Choosing Ammunition
This pistol fires .45 Colt cartridges and .410 shotshells. Bond Arms warns never to fire .454 Casull, .45 +P, .45 Corbon or other high pressure .45 loads in its pistols. Check the barrel marking for the longest .410 shell it accepts. Shot loads work well on snakes and pests at close range, and standard pressure .45 Colt is the choice for everything else.
Carry
A derringer carries well in a pocket or belt holster made for Bond Arms frames. Practice drawing, cocking and firing with an unloaded gun until it becomes second nature.
Cleaning and Care
Stainless steel resists rust, but clean both bores after each range trip, especially after shooting lead bullets or shot shells. Wipe the frame with a lightly oiled cloth before storage.
State Laws
Some states and cities restrict handgun purchases or limit which models can be sold. Check your state and local laws before you order. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
