Description
The Citadel Mariner 12ga Synthetic Nickel is a pump-action 12 gauge with a bright nickel finish and a black synthetic stock, built for home defense, boats, trucks and camps where a blued gun would rust. It has an 18.5-inch barrel and a 3-inch chamber.
Citadel Mariner 12ga Synthetic Nickel Overview
Citadel is the house brand of Legacy Sports International of Reno, Nevada, which imports and supports it. Legacy lists the Mariner with an 18.5-inch barrel, a 39-inch overall length, a weight of about 6.9 pounds and a capacity of 4+1. It ships with three choke tubes, a side shell holder, a full-length barrel heat shield, and an adjustable rear sight on a rail with a blade front. This is part FRMN1220SYN. Our store title reads 12M/20, but the factory barrel is 18.5 inches.
Why a Nickel Finish
Nickel is harder and far more resistant to rust than bluing, which is the point of a gun named Mariner. It handles salt air, damp gun safes and truck cabs far better, though it is not stainless steel, so it still needs a wipe-down with oil after a wet day. Scratches through the plating should be touched up so they do not spread.
Sights and Rail
The rear sight is adjustable and sits on a Picatinny section, so you can swap in a red dot for faster target pickup. With slugs, a dot or the factory sights let you zero precisely instead of relying on a bead. The heat shield also protects your support hand during long strings of fire, and it doubles as a mounting point.
Chokes and Loads
Three screw-in tubes let you tighten the pattern for slugs or birds or open it for close range. For defense, a load of 00 buckshot or a reduced-recoil buckshot load through the open choke is a common choice. Pattern your gun at the distances inside your home, because every shotgun throws buckshot a little differently.
Handling and Recoil
At just under 7 pounds, the Mariner is light for a 12 gauge pump, and full-power slugs will remind you of that. Mount the stock firmly and lean into the gun. A short barrel makes it easy to move through doorways. The side shell holder carries reloads on the receiver, but it adds width, so check how it fits in a case or rack.
Value and Caveats
The Mariner is an affordable import, and fit and finish reflect the price. Work the action a few hundred times before relying on it, as new pumps often feel gritty until parts wear in. Aftermarket parts are scarce compared with Mossberg or Remington pumps, so buy any extras directly through Legacy. Use only shells up to 3 inches, and never fire a 3.5-inch load.
State Laws and Ownership
Pump shotguns are legal in most places, but a few states restrict pistol grips, barrel shrouds or magazine capacity on shotguns. Pennsylvania buyers complete a PICS check at transfer. If you plan to keep it on a boat, check the transport rules for every state and harbor you use.
