Description
A-Zoom 45 Long Colt Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds in 45 Colt, six to a pack. Six fills a single action cylinder, which makes these the right tool for practicing the loading gate routine that defines shooting a Peacemaker pattern revolver.
How A-Zoom 45 Long Colt Snap Caps Are Built
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to the exact dimensions of a loaded cartridge and hard anodized. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body. Nothing swells in a chamber, and nothing gets left behind when you work the ejector rod.
The primer end carries a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. Traditional single actions use a hammer mounted firing pin with no transfer bar, and those are exactly the guns that should never be dropped on an empty chamber.
Because A-Zoom 45 Long Colt Snap Caps match loaded cartridge dimensions, they load through a gate and eject with a rod exactly like real ammunition, which is what makes the practice worth doing.
Why Six Rounds Suits a Single Action
Loading a traditional single action is a sequence: half cock, open the gate, index the cylinder, drop a round, repeat. It only makes sense as a whole, and it needs six rounds to run. Working through it with A-Zoom 45 Long Colt Snap Caps is how the motion becomes smooth.
45 Colt also shows up in modern double action revolvers, Judge-style guns and lever carbines. A six pack covers a full cylinder on most of them, and gives you spares on the guns that hold five.

Field Notes
Older single actions genuinely should not be dry fired empty. A traditional Colt pattern gun has the firing pin on the hammer and nothing to stop it, so A-Zoom 45 Long Colt Snap Caps are not a nicety on those guns, they are the correct way to work the action.
Cowboy action shooters get a second use. Practicing a stage sequence at home with inert rounds builds the same motions as live fire and costs nothing per repetition.
The polymer cushion is a consumable. When the face is deeply cratered and stops rebounding, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
They also make a tidy storage solution. A cylinder loaded with obviously inert dummies keeps the gun visibly unloaded to anyone who opens the gate, while still letting you check function without hunting for something to put in the chambers.
Shooting other wheelguns? The line also covers 44 Magnum and 357 Magnum in matching six packs. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.
For cowboy action shooters, single action collectors and anyone running a 45 Colt revolver, A-Zoom 45 Long Colt Snap Caps are the sensible buy. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA16124 in the six pack.
