Eley Match 22LR 40gr EPS – Superb Tenex Grade Target Ammo, 50 Rounds

Description

Eley Match 22LR 40gr EPS ammunition is built on the same production machinery ELEY uses for its world famous Tenex, making it one of the most accurate 22 rimfire loads you can buy below the very top tier. It fires a 40 grain flat nose bullet with ELEY’s EPS profile, which stands for Enhanced Performance Shape, and is lubricated with a beeswax and tallow blend for clean, consistent shot release. Each box holds 50 rounds.

Tenex Machinery at a Training Friendly Level

Serious small bore shooters often face a choice between affordable training ammo that groups poorly and premium match ammo that is expensive to shoot every day. ELEY Match fills that gap. Because it comes off the same equipment as Tenex, it benefits from the same priming process and case quality, but at a level suited for aspiring top class shooters and high volume training.

The EPS bullet uses a flat nose and a series of small bands on the bearing surface. ELEY designed this shape to reduce friction and improve stability as the bullet leaves the muzzle, helping it fly true through the transonic zone. Many shooters see tighter vertical stringing compared with conventional round nose target loads.

ELEY lists a maximum radial standard deviation of about 4.74 mm, a measure of how tightly shots cluster around the center. That level of consistency is what lets competitors trust their scores reflect their own skill, not their ammunition.

Field Notes and Competition Tips

Use Eley Match 22LR 40gr EPS ammo for 50 meter prone, three position and smallbore benchrest training, as well as club level matches. Many competitors train with Match and save Tenex for major events, since both share the same bullet profile and similar velocity, so the switch rarely requires a sight change.

Rimfire accuracy can vary slightly by production lot, and individual barrels often prefer one lot over another. Once you find a lot that groups well in your rifle, write down the lot number printed on the box and try to buy more from the same run.

Keep your chamber and bore clean, but avoid over cleaning, which can change your first shot group. A few fouling shots after cleaning help settle the barrel before you start recording scores. Store ammunition in a stable, moderate temperature, since heat and cold both influence velocity.

Shooting indoors or in cold weather? Let the ammo reach the same temperature as the range for a while before your session so your sight settings stay true.

If you are moving up in small bore competition or want a training round that behaves like premium match ammo, Eley Match 22LR 40gr EPS is a superb value. Add a sturdy ammo box to protect your lot and a quality rimfire cleaner to keep your rifle shooting its best.

For coaches running junior or collegiate programs, this load offers a practical balance of cost and performance. Athletes can build fundamentals with ammunition that responds to good technique, so improvements in position and trigger control show up clearly on the target.
