Buying ammunition by the box from the same production lot keeps velocity and point of impact consistent from one range trip to the next. Keep a record of the load you carry, check your ammunition for dents or loose bullets from time to time, and rotate your carry rounds so the ones in your firearm stay fresh. These simple habits help you get the full performance Hornady builds into every cartridge.
Before you trust any new load, fire enough rounds through your firearm to confirm it feeds, fires and ejects reliably and that the point of impact matches your sights. Full-power loads produce more recoil and muzzle blast than typical range ammo, so practice with the Hornady 45 Colt 255gr Cowboy until you are comfortable with it, and store the rest in a cool, dry place in the original box.
About the .45 Colt
The .45 Colt dates to 1873 and remains one of the most versatile big-bore cartridges available. Chambered in classic single-action revolvers, modern double-action revolvers and lever-action rifles, it launches heavy, large-diameter bullets at moderate velocities for deep penetration and a broad wound channel. From a lever gun it is a capable short-range deer and hog cartridge, and many shooters value it for handling mild cowboy loads and full-power hunting loads in the same firearm.
