Taurus 856 Ultra Lite 38 Special 2in Overview

This 856 features gray VZ Cyclone Operator II grips and a double/single action for fast and accurate follow-up shots. Designed for concealed carry, this revolver provides accuracy in a lightweight and comfortable package. This model has a matte stainless finish.

The 38 Special Advantage

The 38 Special is a soft shooting, accurate revolver cartridge with a long record as a defensive and training round, and ammunition is easy to find.

Revolver Reliability

A revolver has no magazine to seat and no slide to rack. Pull the trigger and it fires, and a misfire is cleared by simply pulling the trigger again, which is why revolvers remain a trusted choice for home, trail and carry.

Trigger and Accuracy

Double action shooting rewards a smooth, steady press. Dry fire practice with snap caps builds a clean trigger pull, and single action shooting, where offered, gives a light, crisp break for precise shots.

Care and Maintenance

Clean the bore, the cylinder chambers and the forcing cone after shooting, and wipe a light coat of oil on blued surfaces to prevent rust. Check that the cylinder locks up tightly and that the base pin or crane screw stays snug. Store the revolver unloaded in a locked safe away from children.

Choosing Ammunition

Lead round nose and flat nose loads are economical for practice and easy on steel targets, while jacketed hollow points suit defense and field use. Point of impact can shift with bullet weight in a fixed-sight revolver, so confirm where your chosen load hits.

Recommended Accessories

A good belt holster, a cleaning kit, eye and ear protection and a supply of your favorite load complete the package.

Practice and Training

Regular practice builds confidence and safe handling. Start at close range, focus on sight alignment and a smooth trigger press, and work back as your groups tighten. Dry fire with snap caps at home to improve your trigger control between range trips.

Choosing Ammunition

Try several brands and bullet weights to see what feeds reliably and groups best in your handgun. Use quality full metal jacket loads for practice and proven hollow points for defense, and confirm reliable function with your defensive load before carrying it.

Care and Maintenance

Clean the barrel, slide or cylinder and frame after shooting, apply a light coat of quality lubricant to moving parts, and store the handgun unloaded in a locked case or safe away from children.

Safe Storage

Store handguns unloaded in a locked safe, lockbox or with a cable lock, and keep ammunition separate when children are in the home. Quick access safes keep a defensive handgun secure but available. Teach everyone in the household basic firearm safety rules.

Recommended Accessories

A quality holster, spare magazines, eye and ear protection and a cleaning kit round out any handgun purchase. For defensive use, add a weapon light and practice drawing safely from your holster with an unloaded gun before carrying.
