Description
The Tanfoglio Hexagon Tactical 9mm FDE is the 9mm version of Tanfoglio compensated steel pistol. Heavy steel, a ported bull barrel and a soft-shooting cartridge add up to one of the flattest-shooting service-size 9mm pistols you can buy, with 17+1 capacity per our listing and a 4.45 inch barrel.
Tanfoglio Hexagon Tactical 9mm FDE Overview
This is the same K frame and slide as the 10mm Hexagon Tactical. Tanfoglio cuts a hexagonal port through both the slide and the barrel just ahead of the front sight, so gas vents upward to fight muzzle rise. The barrel is turned from a Lothar Walther bull barrel blank, the steel frame carries a Picatinny rail, and thin aluminum grip panels keep the grip slim. 75 ounces.
American Rifleman reported 18-round capacity for the 9mm at launch, while distributor listings for this UPC show 17 rounds, so confirm the magazine count when it matters to you.
Built for Speed
In 9mm, the comp and roughly 45 ounces of steel leave very little muzzle movement. That makes the Hexagon Tactical a natural fit for practical shooting matches, steel challenge style events and fast drills. Split times drop when the dot or front sight barely leaves the target.
Optics-Ready Rear
The adjustable rear sight lives on a removable base, and an optic plate replaces it when you add a red dot. A comped gun with a dot is a very quick combination, but expect to clean the optic lens more often because the port throws carbon upward.
DA/SA and Safety
Tanfoglio uses a traditional DA/SA action with an extended beavertail and a firing pin safety. The first double-action press is long; every shot after that is single action. Competitors who start in single action should check their division rules before setting the gun up.
Practical Caveats
Compensators work best with full-power ammunition, so very light reloads may not cycle well. The port adds blast and noise at the sides, which neighbors at a busy range will notice. At almost three pounds it is a range and match pistol first, not a daily carry gun.
Mags, Parts and Support
The pistol uses Tanfoglio large-frame style 9mm magazines, and IFG stocks parts and spares in the United States. Holsters for comped Tanfoglio pistols are mostly competition rigs. Resale values for Italian steel competition guns hold up reasonably well among match shooters.
State Laws and Ownership
Pennsylvania has no magazine capacity limit and no handgun roster, but the sale still runs through a licensed dealer with a background check. The 17-round magazines cannot be used in states with 10 or 15-round limits. Several states, including California, Massachusetts and Maryland, keep handgun rosters, and imported Tanfoglio models are rarely on them. Check your state and local rules, and confirm with your receiving FFL that it can transfer this pistol, before you order. Compensated barrels are restricted as features in a few states, so check before ordering if you live elsewhere.
