Canik METE SFT Arctic Distressed Overview

Canik model HG5636AD-N is a special finish version of the METE SFT built for Century Arms, the importer. The METE line refined the older TP9 with an integrated flared magwell, more aggressive grip texture including the front strap, a double undercut trigger guard, a low-profile ambidextrous slide stop and a reshaped beavertail. The arctic finish is a printed, distressed white pattern, so every gun looks slightly worn from the box. It is a statement piece, but it is also a full duty-size pistol you can train with seriously.

Trigger and Accuracy

The METE trigger is a flat-faced, short-reset single-action striker design with nickel-coated internal parts. It breaks cleanly and resets quickly, which is the main reason Canik pistols shoot better than their price suggests. Combined with the 4.46-inch barrel and 7.56-inch overall length, the SFT is soft-shooting and accurate for a polymer 9mm. Like any light, crisp striker trigger, it rewards good trigger discipline and a quality holster that fully covers the trigger guard.

Optics Ready Slide

The slide is cut low enough to co-witness the factory three-dot sights through many red dots, and Canik ships three optics bases in the case. Canik lists compatibility with footprints including the Shield RMSc, the Trijicon RMR and its own ONYX and PHANTOM optics. Canik notes that the cut changed at serial 25CC08376: later guns use an RMR plus RMS/RMSc pattern and earlier guns an RMRcc plus RMS/RMSc pattern, so check your serial number before buying a plate or optic.

Capacity and Magazines

Canik ships the METE SFT with one 20-round and one 18-round magazine, and our original listing describes it as a 20-round pistol. That gives you serious capacity for range, competition and home defense use. Spare Canik full-size 18-round magazines and +2 extensions are easy to find. If you live in a state with a 10-round limit, this configuration will not be legal there; Canik makes a separate 10-round METE SFT for those markets.

Accessories in the Box

Few pistols come as complete as a Canik. The hard case includes a magazine loader, a speed magwell, an extra backstrap, a reversible inside or outside the waistband holster, a Canik punch and toolkit, a bore brush, a patch rod and a cable lock. The included holster is fine to get started, but a dedicated light-bearing holster is worth buying if you mount a weapon light on the Picatinny rail under the barrel.

Finish Care and Caveats

The arctic distressed look is a coating applied over the slide and frame, and white finishes show carbon, oil and holster rub faster than black. Wipe the gun down after each range trip with a mild cleaner, and avoid harsh solvents or abrasive pads on the finish. Because the finish is unusual, matching holsters and accessories are mostly black, which some owners like as a contrast. Resale value tends to follow standard METE SFT pricing rather than carrying a premium for the color.
