Glock 19 Gen 6 Aimpoint COA Overview

The G19 has been the reference compact 9mm for decades, and the Gen6 is the biggest update to the design in years. Glock reshaped the grip with a palm swell, an enlarged beavertail, an extended thumb rest and a new RTF6 texture, and added a flat-faced trigger, deeper angled serrations and an nDLC finish. The Gen6 slide uses Glock’s A-CUT interface, which lets the Aimpoint COA mount directly without an adapter plate, keeping the dot low. Note that the store listing called the optic an ACRO; the factory package uses the Aimpoint COA.

The Aimpoint COA Optic

COA stands for Compact Optic Aimpoint, an enclosed emitter red dot built for pistols. An enclosed design keeps rain, lint and debris from blocking the emitter, which matters on a carry or duty gun. Retail listings describe a 3.5 MOA dot. Aimpoint optics are known for long run times, but check the battery on a schedule anyway and keep a spare. Because the optic is direct-mounted on the A-CUT slide, the dot sits lower than on plate-mounted setups, which makes it easier to find on the draw.

Gen6 Grip and Controls

The Gen6 frame has a more contoured feel than earlier Glocks: a palm swell, an enlarged beavertail that encourages a higher grip, an undercut trigger guard and RTF6 texture that reaches higher on the frame and onto the thumb rest. Two backstraps adjust grip size. The slide stop is ambidextrous with an enlarged border to reduce accidental activation, and the magazine catch is reversible. A light rail in front of the trigger guard accepts weapon lights and lasers.

Trigger, Barrel and Finish

Every Gen6 gets a flat-faced trigger, and Glock lists the pull at about 26 newtons, roughly 5.8 pounds, depending on configuration. The three passive Safe Action safeties remain, with no manual thumb safety. The Glock Marksman Barrel uses rifling that differs slightly from the old polygonal profile for better precision, and the nDLC finish resists corrosion and wear. Glock states a 4.02-inch barrel, a 7.28-inch overall length and a weight of about 21.5 ounces with the optic and no magazine.

Carry and Holsters

At 1.35 inches wide and about 5.83 inches tall with the optic, the G19 Gen6 is a practical size for concealed carry as well as home and duty use. The tradeoff is holster fit. Gen6 frame and slide changes, plus the optic, mean some older Gen5 holsters may not fit correctly, so buy a holster specifically listed for the G19 Gen6 with an optic. Light-bearing holsters will also need to match your exact light model.

Honest Caveats

This package ships with 10-round magazines, which suits restricted states, though standard 15-round G19 magazines work where they are legal. As a new generation, the Gen6 has limited aftermarket support so far for triggers, sights and holsters. Glock’s red dot packages cost more than buying a pistol alone, but the factory direct mount avoids plates and fitting. Practice dry-fire and live drills before carrying a red dot pistol, since finding the dot quickly takes repetition, and plan around battery life with a routine change schedule.

State Laws and Ownership

The 10-round magazines make this version a good fit for states with capacity limits, such as California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Colorado, Illinois and Washington. However, California and Massachusetts also require handguns to appear on state rosters, and a new Gen6 model may not be listed. Other states require permits or licenses to purchase. In Pennsylvania the pistol transfers through a licensed dealer with a background check. Confirm your state and local rules before you order.
