Sauer 100 HS Precision 6.5 Creedmoor – Reliable Lightweight Gray Hunting Rifle

Description

The Sauer 100 HS Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor, model S1HSGFT65C, is a lightweight hunting rifle built on the Sauer 100 action with a gray Cerakote barreled action and a gray H-S Precision stock with black webbing. A 22 inch lightweight fluted barrel threaded 1/2-28 keeps it handy, and distributors list the weight at about 6.4 pounds without a scope.

Sauer 100 HS Precision 6.5 Creedmoor Overview

Sauer calls this family the 100 LWT with H-S Precision stock, and it was the first time the German maker fitted H-S stocks at the factory. The stock is a composite of Kevlar, fiberglass and carbon with a 7075 aluminum bedding block, so the action is held firmly and point of impact stays put through weather changes. The barrel is cold hammer forged in Germany, and Sauer backs the line with a sub-MOA accuracy promise using quality ammunition.

Built for Carrying

At roughly 6.4 pounds bare, this rifle is easy to carry up a ridge or through a full day of still-hunting. Add a light scope and the total can stay under 8 pounds. Light rifles move more under recoil, but the 6.5 Creedmoor is mild enough that most shooters can still spot their own hits through the scope.

Action and Controls

The three-lug bolt has a 60 degree throw, which leaves room for a large scope and makes cycling quick. The adjustable single-stage trigger sets from about 2.2 to 4.2 pounds. A three-position safety lets you unload with the safety engaged. The detachable double-stack magazine holds five rounds and drops free for fast unloading.

Threaded Muzzle

The 1/2-28 thread accepts common muzzle brakes and many suppressor mounts. A brake reduces felt recoil but is harsh on your ears and anyone beside you. A suppressor needs an approved ATF Form 4 and must be legal where you hunt; MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items. Keep the thread protector on when the muzzle is bare.

6.5 Creedmoor in the Field

The 6.5 Creedmoor drops deer cleanly with good bullets and carries energy well at moderate range. Its long, sleek bullets resist wind drift, which helps on open fields and powerline cuts. For larger game, use a bonded or monolithic bullet and be conservative with distance. Factory ammo is plentiful and fairly priced.

Gray Finish and Stock

The gray Cerakote and gray stock give a muted, modern look that does not glare in sunlight. Cerakote protects against rust, but you should still wipe the rifle down after wet hunts. The H-S stock has a field-style grip and flat fore-end that rides well on packs and shooting sticks.

State Laws and Ownership

Bolt-action hunting rifles are legal in most states, but some states and localities restrict threaded barrels, require specific hunting calibers or limit suppressor use. Hunting regulations also vary by species and season. Pennsylvania hunters can use the 6.5 Creedmoor for deer and bear during rifle seasons. Check your state and local rules before you order.
