Description
The Savage Rascal SR 22 LR Blue is a compact single-shot bolt-action youth rifle with a 16 1/8-inch threaded carbon steel barrel, a lightweight blue synthetic stock, adjustable iron sights, and an 11.25-inch length of pull sized for smaller shooters. It weighs about 3.5 pounds, so young hands can hold it steady and learn good habits from the very first shot.
Savage Rascal SR 22 LR Blue Overview
Savage built the Rascal to be one of the safest and most accurate first rifles available, and the SR version adds modern styling and a threaded muzzle. The rifle cocks by lifting the bolt, and you can unload it without pressing the trigger, which removes one of the most common ways a new shooter can make a mistake. Full-size rifle features help kids build real marksmanship skills instead of outgrowing a toy-like gun in a single season. The 22 LR is the most popular cartridge in the world for good reason: ammunition is affordable and easy to find, recoil is almost nonexistent, and it is quiet enough for backyard plinking, squirrel hunting, and hours of practice.
Built for Safety
Safety is the first lesson for any new shooter, and this rifle is designed around it. A two-position manual safety is easy to see and operate, and because the rifle holds a single cartridge, every shot is deliberate. An adult can load one round, coach the shot, and then hand over the next round, which keeps range time controlled, calm, and focused on fundamentals.
Threaded Barrel and Accuracy
The 16 1/8-inch carbon steel barrel has a 1:16 twist matched to 22 LR bullets and is threaded 1/2-28 at the muzzle for a muzzle device or suppressor where local law allows. The matte finish cuts glare, and the short barrel keeps the rifle balanced and easy to carry through the woods or around the range.
Adjustable Iron Sights
Adjustable iron sights come installed, so a new shooter learns proper sight alignment and sight picture before ever looking through a scope. The rear sight adjusts for windage and elevation, letting you zero the rifle for the ammunition your family shoots most. Learning on open sights builds skills that carry over to every rifle a young shooter will use later.
User-Adjustable Trigger
Savage includes its user-adjustable AccuTrigger on this youth rifle, the same trigger system found on its full-size hunting rifles. A light, crisp, predictable pull makes it much easier for a beginner to hold the sights steady through the shot, and the center safety blade helps prevent accidental discharge.
Sized for Young Shooters
The blue synthetic stock is lightweight, weather resistant, and tough enough to handle bumps in the truck and drops at the range. With an overall length of about 30.6 inches and an 11.25-inch length of pull, the rifle fits kids comfortably, so they can mount it correctly and see the sights without straining. Left-hand versions are also available for southpaw youngsters.
Care and Cleaning
Rimfire ammunition leaves more fouling than most centerfire loads, so a little routine care keeps the Savage Rascal SR 22 LR Blue cycling smoothly and shooting accurately. After a range session, wipe down the bolt and chamber area, run a few patches through the bore, and put a light coat of oil on exposed metal. Store the rifle in a dry place, check that the action screws stay snug, and it will give you years of dependable service.
