Description

The Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold is the current Bodyguard in a finish you do not see often: black Armornite over the slide and frame with rose gold PVD on the controls. What makes the 2.0 worth attention is not the finish though — it is that Smith & Wesson got twelve rounds of 380 ACP into a pistol this small, where the old Bodyguard held six.

What Changed From the Original Bodyguard

The original Bodyguard was a six-round 380 with a long, heavy double-action trigger and sights that were more suggestion than aiming device. The 2.0 fixed all three: capacity doubled to twelve, the trigger is a much shorter single-action-style press, and the sights are actual white-dot sights you can see. The Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold is that gun with a distinctive finish on top.

It is still genuinely pocket-sized, which is the entire reason to buy a 380 rather than a micro nine.

Parts, magazines and holsters for the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold are the standard Bodyguard 2.0 items, so nothing about the finish limits your options later.

Why 380 ACP in the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold

Three-eighty gives up energy to 9mm, and there is no pretending otherwise. What it buys you is a pistol you will actually carry every day, with recoil mild enough that most shooters place follow-up shots faster than they can with a lightweight 9mm. A carried 380 beats a 9mm left in a drawer.

Modern defensive 380 loads have improved a great deal. Buy quality hollow points and test that they feed before you carry them.

Recoil in the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold is mild enough that most shooters shoot it better than a comparably sized 9mm, which matters more than muzzle energy on paper.

Thumb Safety and Carry

This configuration has a manual thumb safety, which some carriers want and others do not. In a pocket-carried pistol it is a reasonable extra step, particularly if the gun rides without a holster covering the trigger — though it always should have one. The Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold fits pocket holsters, ankle rigs and small IWB holsters made for the Bodyguard 2.0 footprint.

Twelve rounds in a gun this size means the grip is short. Most hands will get two fingers on it, and the extended magazine helps if that bothers you.

Who the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold Is For

This is a deep-concealment gun: pocket, ankle, or a small of back rig under office clothes. It suits the carrier who has given up on carrying a compact 9mm because it is too much gun for their daily dress, and the shooter who wants something soft-recoiling as a first carry pistol. The rose gold controls make it a common choice as a gift.

If you can carry a micro 9mm comfortably every day, that is the more capable option and you should.

Holsters and Ammunition

Holsters cut for the Bodyguard 2.0 are widely available in pocket, IWB and ankle patterns, and the footprint is different from the original Bodyguard — old holsters will not fit. Buy quality defensive 380 and run at least fifty rounds of it through the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold before trusting it.

Practice ammunition in 380 costs more per round than 9mm, which is worth budgeting for.

Maintenance

Micro pistols are harder on their recoil springs than full-size guns because everything happens in a shorter distance. Plan to replace the recoil spring assembly on the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold every couple of thousand rounds, and keep the rails lightly oiled. Lint is the real enemy of a pocket gun — clean it more often than the round count suggests.

Check the thumb safety detent occasionally; a safety that gets mushy should be looked at.

Keeping the Smith Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 Rose Gold clean is most of the maintenance; a pocket gun collects more debris than a holstered one.
