Description
The Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round exists for two reasons. The first is jurisdictions that cap magazine capacity at ten. The second is shooters who prefer the shorter grip a ten round magazine allows, because grip length is what prints through a shirt.
Everything else is the standard DY9Z. Same 3.5 inch barrel, same milled RMSc optic pocket, same three backstraps, same Second Wind trigger. Only the magazine changes.
What the Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round actually is
- A striker fired 9mm Luger micro compact holding 10+1 with the supplied magazine.
- A 3.50 inch barrel in a pistol 6.5 inches long and 1.10 inches wide, weighing about 20 ounces.
- An all black polymer frame with an accessory rail, under a black optic ready slide with front and rear serrations.
- An RMSc footprint cut machined directly into the slide, so a micro red dot mounts without a plate.
- Three interchangeable backstraps in small, medium and large, supplied in the box.
- Fixed white dot front and white U-notch rear sights, a firing pin block and an anti-drop trigger block.

When ten rounds is the right choice
- If you live somewhere that caps magazine capacity, this is not a choice at all and the Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round is simply the compliant version of the pistol.
- If you do not, there is still an argument for it. A ten round magazine is shorter, so the grip is shorter, and grip length is the dimension that prints when you bend or reach.
- Deep concealment and pocket carry both favor the shorter grip, and the difference is noticeable on a frame this small.
- The trade is five rounds, which is not nothing. Most people who are not capacity restricted should take the fifteen.
- Both magazines fit the same pistol, so you can own the Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round and run either depending on how you are dressed.

Magazines for the Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round
Derya publishes the DY9Z sheet on its own site if you want the manufacturer view alongside ours: the DY9Z product page carries the same dimensions, trigger and optic cut printed above.

- The Derya DY9Z fifteen round magazine is the correct full capacity spare and the one the advertised 15+1 is based on.
- Glock 43X and 48 pattern magazines also drop in. Ten rounds, and cheap enough to buy several for practice.
- Steel fifteen round conversions such as the Shield Arms S15 are popular in the Glock 43X. Derya does not list them as approved for the DY9Z and using one may affect your warranty, so check with Derya first.
- For ammunition, CCI Blazer Brass 115 grain 9mm is the clean burning practice default.
- Stick to sights built around the RMSc footprint. A larger window dot can overhang the short slide and catch on clothing.
If you are not capacity restricted
Have a look at the fifteen round versions before committing. The Flat Dark Earth and the black with the silver slide are the same pistol with the longer magazine, and the grip is under half an inch longer for five more rounds.
The Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round remains the right answer where the law requires it, or where the shortest possible grip is the priority. Everywhere else, the arithmetic favors the higher capacity build.
Why the Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round earns its place
- It is the compliant build of a pistol that is otherwise capacity restricted out of several states.
- A direct RMSc cut takes a micro red dot with no plate and one less set of fasteners to check.
- Three backstraps means the grip on the Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round can be fitted rather than endured.
- The shorter magazine gives the shortest grip in the range, which is the dimension that matters for deep concealment.
- Compliance note worth knowing: Derya lists the DY9Z as Maryland compliant, and not California or Massachusetts compliant.
The Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round suits anyone in a capacity restricted jurisdiction and anyone who wants the shortest possible grip on a carry pistol. It shares holsters, sights, backstraps and parts with every other DY9Z we list, and the fifteen round magazines fit it if your circumstances change.
It is a micro compact and it recoils like one. Spend the ammunition to learn the grip before judging it. Every firearm on this page ships to your chosen FFL for transfer and pickup.
Before you order
Capacity law changes and it changes at the state level. Confirm the current position where you live with the dealer who will be completing your transfer, because they are the ones who have to complete it.
Derya lists the DY9Z as Maryland compliant and not California or Massachusetts compliant. That is a manufacturer statement about the model rather than legal advice, and it is not a substitute for checking your own situation.
If you are ordering the Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round because of a capacity cap, buy spare ten round magazines at the same time. Compliant magazines are the ones that go out of stock first and they are harder to find later.
And if you move somewhere without a cap, the fifteen round magazines drop straight into this pistol. Nothing about the gun needs changing, which is worth knowing when you are weighing it against a competitor that would need replacing.
A final word on the all black finish. Every other frame in this range is colored, so this is the version for anybody who wants the pistol to look like equipment rather than a choice.
Practically it makes no difference to how the Derya DY9Z Black 10 Round works, though black does show dust and lint more readily than the earth tones do. On a carry gun that means wiping it down more often, which you should be doing anyway.
