Description

The Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey is the spring gobbler configuration of the A300 platform: a 24 inch barrel, Mossy Oak Bottomland camouflage from butt to muzzle, a Picatinny rail already installed for a red dot, and controls sized for cold hands and gloves. It is a hunting gun with a specific season in mind, and the changes Beretta made are the ones that matter in a turkey vest.

What the Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey Changes

Start with the rail on the Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey. A seven slot Picatinny section comes mounted on the receiver from the factory, which means a red dot goes on without drilling, without a gunsmith and without a clamp-on mount that shifts under recoil. Turkey hunting is aimed shooting rather than swinging, and a dot on a tight patterning gun is the single biggest accuracy upgrade available. Beretta saved you the step.

The Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey controls are oversized across the board. The loading port is enlarged, the bolt release and bolt handle are extended, and the safety button is both oversized and reversible for left handed shooters. None of that matters on a warm range day. All of it matters at five in the morning in April with numb fingers and a bird already gobbling on the roost.

Sighting on the Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey is a mid bead plus a high visibility front sight on a 6×6 rib, which is a simple and effective arrangement if you choose not to run an optic. The barrel is Beretta Steelium, 24 inches, with a bore diameter of 18.6mm and an Extended Mobilchoke tube. Short barrels are the norm for turkey guns because most of the shooting happens inside 40 yards and the gun has to move through brush.

Recoil, Fit and Camouflage

Turkey loads are unpleasant, and a Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey is built around that fact. Three inch magnum shells with heavy payloads of tungsten or copper plated lead generate real recoil out of a gun this light, and you often fire them from an awkward seated position against a tree. Kick-Off comes standard here, using hydraulic dampers in the stock, and it is the reason patterning day does not leave a mark.

Stock drop on the Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey is adjustable through a Beretta shim kit, which lets you change the point of impact relative to your cheek weld. That is more useful on a turkey gun than on most shotguns, because you are aiming rather than pointing and a gun that shoots six inches high at 40 yards will cost you a bird.

Mossy Oak Bottomland is the old, faded, mostly brown pattern that has outlived every trend since 1986, and it works because turkeys see color and movement extremely well. The camouflage covers the barrel as well as the stock and fore end, which matters when the last thing between you and a gobbler is a barrel resting on your knee.

Who It Is Built For

Spring turkey hunters are the whole audience, and a Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey answers the questions that matter to them. It takes an optic without modification, it handles heavy loads without punishing you, and it disappears against bark and leaf litter.

It also works reasonably as a general hunting gun. The 24 inch barrel is short enough for deer in thick timber with buckshot or slugs, and the rail that holds a turkey dot will hold a low power scope just as well. Plenty of owners run a Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey year round and swap optics by season.

Where it is less at home is waterfowl or clays. There is no extended magazine, the barrel is short for long crossing shots, and the Bottomland pattern does not hide anything in a snow field or a marsh. If that is your hunting, an A300 Ultima in Max-7 or the Snow Goose configuration is the better tool.

A few practical notes before you order a Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey. Pattern the gun before the season with the exact load you plan to hunt, because turkey chokes and shells vary enormously and a Beretta A300 Ultima Turkey deserves to be set up rather than assumed. Use the shim kit if your point of impact is off, rather than aiming around the problem. If you mount a red dot, bring a spare battery and confirm zero after travel. And check your state rules on magazine capacity, since turkey regulations differ from migratory bird rules.
