Description

The Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot is the enclosed 26mm rifle optic carrying Holosun Special Purpose Reticle in red: a 1.5 MOA centre dot, 1 MOA holdover marks calibrated for M193, a 65 MOA circle and ranging references. Part ARO-EVO-SPR-RD.

Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot

It Is A 1.5 MOA Dot, Not A 2 MOA Dot

Worth saying first because several large retailers list the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot wrongly have this wrong. You will find listings for this barcode describing a 2 MOA reticle. Holosun own published specification says 1.5 MOA, and that is the figure we have used throughout.

The difference is not academic on a holdover reticle. A finer centre dot means the marks below it can be read against the target rather than buried under it, and it means your zero can be set precisely enough that the holdovers are actually worth having. If you are cross shopping the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot against other listings, check whose number you are reading.

The Holdovers Work Without A Magnifier

Holosun sells the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot bundled with a three power magnifier, and behind glass the marks are certainly easier to use. But the bundle is not a requirement and plenty of rifles are better off without one.

A magnifier adds weight behind the optic, adds a mount that has to stay tight, and adds a thing to flip when you are busy. At the distances most carbines are actually shot, 1x is faster and the holdovers on the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot are still perfectly readable against a man sized target out past two hundred yards. Buy the magnifier when you find yourself wanting it, not because a bundle suggested you should.

How To Actually Use The Marks

Zero the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot centre dot at fifty or a hundred yards depending on your load and your preference. Each mark below it represents 1 MOA of drop, roughly one inch per hundred yards, calibrated for M193 ball out of a standard barrel.

Then shoot it. Take the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot to a range where you can get past two hundred yards and confirm which mark corresponds to which distance with your ammunition, because barrel length and load will shift things. Write the answers down. Ten minutes of that turns a reticle full of lines into a genuine range card that lives in your optic and never needs batteries or memory.

The 65 MOA Circle Does Two Jobs

Close in the 65 MOA circle is the fastest aiming device on the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot on the optic. At ten feet nobody is using a 1.5 MOA dot; you want something your eye cannot miss, and a ring that large is exactly that. Put the target in the circle and press.

At distance it measures. Sixty five MOA subtends about sixty eight inches at a hundred yards, so a target of known size that fills a known fraction of the ring tells you how far away it is. Between the circle and the holdovers, the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot covers contact distance and several hundred yards without you touching a turret or reaching for a rangefinder.

Red Is The Efficient Choice

The Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot emits at 650nm, and red emitters draw less current than green or gold for a given output, and red is the reticle colour most shooters have trained on. Where it loses is contrast against warm backgrounds: brick, rust, timber, brown cardboard.

If your rifle mostly sees a range, white or painted steel, or built environments, that objection largely disappears and red on the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot is the sensible, efficient answer. If you shoot in heavy timber and brush, look at the green or gold versions of the same sight instead and we will point you at them.

Enclosed, Solar Backed, Two Mounts

The emitter on the Holosun ARO EVO SPR Red Dot is sealed inside the housing so rain, snow, mud and lint cannot reach it. Solar failsafe harvests ambient light and will run the sight alone if the CR2032 dies or is removed; the cell is rated at 50,000 hours at setting six and loads from a side tray, so a battery change never means pulling the optic off the rail.

Both mount heights come in the box: 1.63 inch lower one third co witness and 1.05 inch low. Adjustments move 0.5 MOA per click across 50 MOA of travel each way, which is finer than the category standard and matters on a holdover reticle, because every mark below the centre is only as honest as the zero above it.
