Description
The Savage A22 Timber Thumbhole 22 LR is a semi-automatic rimfire rifle with a 16.5-inch heavy carbon steel barrel, a brown woodgrain thumbhole stock, a 10-round rotary magazine, and factory-installed scope bases for easy optic mounting. It is built to deliver fast follow-up shots with real accuracy.
Savage A22 Timber Thumbhole 22 LR Overview
The A22 Timber Thumbhole wraps Savage’s dependable 22 LR semi-auto in a handsome ambidextrous thumbhole stock and adds a short, threaded heavy barrel, giving you a compact rifle that looks great and shoots even better. The 22 LR is the most popular cartridge in the world for good reason: ammunition is affordable and easy to find, recoil is almost nonexistent, and it is quiet enough for backyard plinking, squirrel hunting, and hours of practice.
Semi-Auto Action
The straight-blowback action is simple, proven, and reliable with a wide range of 22 LR loads. Fewer moving parts mean easier cleaning and dependable cycling, and the oversized bolt handle is easy to grab with gloves or cold fingers.
Barrel
The 16.5-inch heavy carbon steel barrel has a 1:16″ twist matched to 22 LR bullets and a matte finish. The heavier profile soaks up heat during long strings of fire and steadies the rifle for tight groups from a rest. A thread cap protects the muzzle threads when no device is installed. The muzzle is threaded 1/2-28 for a muzzle device or suppressor where local law allows.
Stock and Fit
The ambidextrous thumbhole stock has a woodgrain finish and puts your hand in a natural, near-vertical position for a straight-back trigger press, whether you shoot right- or left-handed. Two sling studs make it easy to add a sling.
Trigger
Savage’s user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you set your own pull weight for a crisp, clean break, a big advantage on small targets at long range. The center safety blade helps prevent accidental discharge, and the light, predictable pull helps you shoot this rifle as accurately as it is capable of shooting.
Rotary Magazine
The 10-round rotary magazine feeds smoothly and sits nearly flush with the bottom of the stock, so it does not snag on brush or get in the way when shooting from a rest. Carry a spare or two for long days in a prairie dog town, and drop the magazine to unload quickly and safely between stands.
Optics Ready
The rifle comes ready for a scope with factory-installed bases, so mounting a rimfire optic is quick and simple. Pair the rifle with a quality rimfire scope to take full advantage of its accuracy.
Care and Cleaning
Rimfire ammunition leaves more fouling than most centerfire loads, so a little routine care keeps the Savage A22 Timber Thumbhole 22 LR cycling smoothly and shooting accurately. After a range session, wipe down the bolt and chamber area, run a few patches through the bore, and put a light coat of oil on exposed metal. Store the rifle in a dry place, check that the action screws stay snug, and it will give you years of dependable service.
