Description

The Smith Wesson 15 AXE Pistol 300 BLK is an AR pistol chambered in 300 Blackout with an 8 inch barrel, built around the Gemtech GVAC suppressor-optimised gas system and fitted with a Magpul BTR arm brace.
Smith Wesson 15 AXE Pistol 300 BLK 300 Blackout and a Short Barrel
300 Blackout was designed from the start for short barrels and suppressors, which is exactly what this pistol is. Unlike 5.56, which loses a great deal of velocity below 10 inches, 300 BLK burns essentially all its powder in about 8 inches. That means an 8 inch 300 Blackout gives up almost nothing to a 16 inch one.
The barrel uses 5R rifling with a 1 in 7.5 twist, which stabilises the very heavy subsonic bullets the cartridge is best known for as well as lighter supersonic loads. Armornite treatment resists corrosion and makes cleaning easier, and a nickel boron plated barrel extension improves heat resistance and smooths feeding.
The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 with a thread protector fitted, which is the standard thread for 300 Blackout suppressors.
GVAC Gas System and Controls
The GVAC direct impingement system is the reason the AXE line exists. A conventional AR running suppressed pushes gas back through the receiver and into the shooters face, which is unpleasant over a long string and genuinely tiring. GVAC manages that pressure rather than simply venting it.
Controls are ambidextrous throughout, including the bolt release, magazine catch and safety selector, and a Radian Raptor ambidextrous charging handle is fitted. That is a considerably better parts list than most factory AR pistols carry.
A 7 inch Midwest Industries Combat M-LOK free-float handguard covers the barrel, an enhanced bolt carrier group and nickel boron hammer are fitted, and the trigger is a flat-face unit. The M&P pistol grip comes with four interchangeable backstraps, and one 30-round PMAG is included.

Why Buyers Choose the Smith Wesson 15 AXE Pistol 300 BLK
300 Blackout out of 8 inches is the configuration the cartridge was designed around. You lose almost no performance compared with a full-length barrel, which is not true of 5.56.
If you own or plan to own a suppressor, the GVAC system and the 5/8×24 threads mean this pistol is ready for it, and the blowback mitigation is the difference between shooting comfortably and squinting through gas.
Fully ambidextrous controls plus a Radian charging handle is a parts list you would normally have to build yourself, and it makes the gun equally usable left or right handed.
Subsonic 300 Blackout through a suppressor is remarkably quiet for the energy it delivers, which makes this a serious option for hog control and night work where noise matters.
Who Should Buy It
The Smith Wesson 15 AXE Pistol 300 BLK suits suppressor owners who want a short host built for the job, shooters wanting a compact vehicle or pack gun, and anyone working hogs or predators at night. Bear in mind that 300 Blackout ammunition costs more than 5.56 and that supersonic and subsonic loads have very different trajectories, so zero for the one you use.
