Description

The Smith Wesson Model 940 9mm Revolver is a stainless steel J-frame chambered in 9mm Luger, bringing back one of the more interesting concealed carry revolvers Smith and Wesson has built and updating it with a tritium front night sight and VZ grips.
Smith Wesson Model 940 9mm Revolver A 9mm Revolver That Makes Sense
Most small revolvers are chambered in 38 Special, and there is nothing wrong with that. But 9mm is cheaper, more widely available, and loaded to higher pressure, which means better velocity out of a short barrel. If you already own a 9mm pistol, a 9mm revolver means one cartridge covers everything you carry.
The 940 makes that work with full moon clips. Because 9mm is a rimless cartridge, the extractor needs something to grab, and the moon clip supplies it. The side benefit is that reloading becomes faster than any rimmed-cartridge revolver: all five rounds drop in and eject as one unit.
Construction is all stainless steel, frame and cylinder both, in a traditional J-frame profile. At 23.52 ounces it is heavier than an airweight, and that weight is exactly why 9mm is comfortable to shoot from a gun this size.
Sights, Grips and Carry
The front sight is an XS tritium night sight, and it is oversized for faster acquisition. On a defensive revolver that is a meaningful upgrade over the milled ramp that most J-frames still carry, because it gives you an aiming reference in the dark and a large bright one in daylight.
VZ grips in a Diamond pattern, black cherry in colour, give a checkered finger-groove hold that stays secure without the tackiness of rubber. They look considerably better than standard synthetic grips, which matters on a stainless gun.
The hammer is concealed and the action is double action only, so there is nothing to snag on the draw and nothing to fumble under stress. Three full moon clips ship with the revolver.

Why Buyers Choose the Smith Wesson Model 940 9mm Revolver
Sharing ammunition between your carry pistol and your carry revolver simplifies everything: one cartridge to stock, one load to test, one price to pay.
Moon clip reloads are genuinely fast. A revolver is usually slower to reload than an automatic, but a moon clip closes most of that gap because you handle one piece instead of five loose rounds.
9mm out of a 2.17 inch barrel outperforms 38 Special out of the same length, because it runs at higher pressure. You get better velocity from a shorter tube.
All stainless construction and a tritium front sight make this a gun built to be carried in real conditions rather than one that only looks good in a case.
Who Should Buy It
The Smith Wesson Model 940 9mm Revolver suits concealed carriers who already shoot 9mm and want a revolver that shares the ammunition, shooters who want revolver reliability with faster reloads, and anyone who prefers a heavier small revolver for comfort in recoil. The moon clips are not optional, so keep spares and treat a bent clip as a part to replace rather than straighten.
