Akkar 528 High Noon 28 Gauge Shotgun – Reliable 28″ Blued Walnut Over/Under with 5 Chokes

Description

The Akkar 528 High Noon 28 gauge is proof that a sub-gauge over/under does not have to cost as much as a used car. Built as part number 213001, it hangs 28-inch glossy blued barrels under a raised ventilated rib and sets them in a checkered walnut stock, producing a light, soft-shooting double gun that upland hunters and clays shooters both tend to fall for quickly.

The Case for the Akkar 528 High Noon 28 Gauge

Twenty-eight gauge has a devoted following for good reason. Its short, efficient shot column patterns cleanly, recoil is genuinely mild, and guns chambered for it tend to carry beautifully through a long day afield. Combine that bore with a stacked-barrel action and you get two chokes ready at once, a narrow sighting plane and the safety clarity of a break-open gun. At roughly 45 inches overall this one stays quick in the hands.

28-Inch Glossy Blued Barrels

Both barrels measure 28 inches and wear a deep high-gloss blue that gives the gun real presence. The raised vent rib pulls your eye forward to the bead on a clean, elevated line, which pays off on flushing quail and crossing doves, and the vents shed heat mirage during quick strings of fire.

Five Flush Chokes and a 3-Inch Chamber

Five flush-fitting choke tubes come with the gun, covering skeet, improved cylinder, modified and improved modified constrictions. You can open the lower barrel for the initial flush and tighten the upper barrel for the follow-up shot. The 2¾ to 3-inch chamber gives you room to shoot standard field loads or step up when birds are flushing at range.

Walnut Stock, Prince of Wales Grip and OxyCap Finish

The buttstock is cut with a Prince of Wales grip and enhanced checkering, a combination that fills the hand naturally and stays secure in damp weather. A high-gloss, durable OxyCap finish protects the walnut while letting the grain show through, and a recoil pad caps the butt, though in 28 gauge it rarely has much work to do.

Who Should Buy It

This gun makes sense for upland hunters chasing quail, dove, woodcock and grouse, for sporting clays shooters who want a sub-gauge entry that will not beat them up, and for anyone who has developed a flinch behind heavier bores. It is also an excellent step-up gun for a young shooter who has outgrown a .410.

Weigh the downsides. Twenty-eight gauge shells cost noticeably more than 12 or 20 gauge and are harder to find locally, so budget for ordering ammunition online. Capacity is two rounds, which slows you down on high-volume dove days. There are no sling swivel studs from the factory, the glossy finish shows fingerprints and handling marks, and this bore is not the right tool for waterfowl or turkeys. Shooters who want an engraved receiver and upgraded wood should look at the Elite version.
