A conventional AR-15 vents propellant gas back into the upper receiver, which is why the bolt carrier comes out black and hot. The Sig Sauer MCX Spear LT 5.56 Rifle drives the carrier with a short-stroke piston instead, leaving carbon and heat forward at the gas block.

Handguard, Rail and Mounting
A full-length Picatinny top rail runs from the receiver across the M-LOK handguard in one continuous plane, so optics, magnifiers and night vision stay aligned through any change in setup.
M-LOK slots take lights, hand stops and bipods directly. Nothing needs a rail section bolted on, which keeps the handguard slim and the rifle light.
