Grizzly 45 Auto 230gr JHP – Reliable Defense Ammo

Description

The Grizzly 45 Auto 230gr JHP load, item GC45A2, is a 20 round box of 45 Auto ammunition from Grizzly Cartridge Company, loaded with a 230 grain jacketed hollow point bullet rated at 850 fps with 369 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Grizzly recommends it for self defense and shooting.

Grizzly 45 Auto 230gr JHP Overview

The 230 grain hollow point at standard velocity is the traditional defensive load for the 45 Auto, and Grizzly offers it here rated at 850 fps with 369 foot-pounds of energy. This classic combination of a heavy, wide bullet and moderate speed delivers deep penetration and dependable expansion with recoil that most shooters find manageable. Because it is a standard-pressure load, it is a good fit for older 1911s, alloy-frame pistols and any 45 not rated for +P ammunition.

Bullet Design

A jacketed hollow point opens up on impact, increasing its frontal area and transferring energy to the target while limiting over-penetration compared with solid bullets. A heavy 230 grain 45 caliber hollow point starts wide and expands further, creating a large wound channel even at the moderate speeds of standard 45 Auto loads.

Intended Use

Grizzly lists this load for self-defense and shooting. It is well suited to concealed carry and home defense with 45 Auto pistols of all types. Practice with it periodically so its recoil and point of impact stay familiar. For pistols rated for +P, Grizzly also offers a faster 230 grain +P version.

Firearm Compatibility

This ammunition is made for handguns chambered in 45 ACP (45 Auto), including 1911-pattern pistols, the Glock 21, 30 and 41, the SIG P220, the Springfield XD and XD-M in 45, and the Smith and Wesson M&P45. It can also be used in revolvers chambered for 45 ACP with moon clips. Standard-pressure loads like this are suitable for older and alloy-frame pistols not rated for +P.

Grizzly Cartridge Company

Grizzly Cartridge Company is an American ammunition maker known for heavy, hard-hitting loads for hunters, outdoorsmen and handgunners who carry in bear country, along with cowboy action, defense and safari ammunition. Its loads are made in the USA, and many are built to run at the upper end of what each cartridge allows, so always match the load to your firearm.

Recoil and Shootability

The 45 Auto is known for a firm push rather than a sharp snap, and standard-pressure 230 grain loads are comfortable in full-size pistols. Compact 45s feel livelier, so practice with the load you carry.

Practice and Testing

Fire at least a box through your own firearm before you rely on this load for hunting or protection. Confirm reliable feeding and extraction, and check where it prints at the distances you expect to shoot, since heavy or fast loads often hit to a different point than light practice ammunition.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect rounds for dents, loose bullets or corrosion before loading.
