Lehigh Defense 38 Special 100gr Overview
Lehigh Defense is a Pennsylvania ammunition maker that machines its own solid copper bullets and is known for its fluid-transfer and controlled-fracturing designs.
Bullet Design
The Lehigh Xtreme Defense is a solid copper bullet with flutes cut into the nose that use fluid transfer to create wound cavities without relying on expansion, so it penetrates consistently through barriers.
Intended Use
This load is built for personal protection. A good defensive load must feed reliably, expand consistently and penetrate deeply enough to stop a threat, and this design is engineered with those goals in mind. Fire enough of it to confirm that it feeds, extracts and hits point of aim in your carry gun before you rely on it.
Firearm Compatibility
Use this ammunition only in firearms chambered for 38 Special. Check the marking on your barrel or slide before loading, and never fire it in a firearm chambered for a different cartridge.
Recoil and Handling
Recoil depends on the bullet weight, the load and the size of your handgun. Practice with your chosen load until follow-up shots feel natural, and pay attention to your grip and stance.
Accuracy and Consistency
Every firearm has its own preferences, so test a few groups with this load at your usual distance and confirm your point of impact. Once you find a load your firearm likes, sticking with it builds confidence and keeps your results consistent.
About the Bullet Weight
A light bullet for this cartridge leaves the muzzle fast and tends to recoil less, which many shooters find easier to control. Point of impact can shift when you change bullet weights, so confirm your zero any time you switch loads.
Why Ammunition Quality Matters
Small differences in cases, primers, powder charges and bullets add up to big differences on target. Quality ammunition ignites reliably, feeds and extracts smoothly, and delivers consistent velocity from shot to shot, which shows up as tighter groups and fewer malfunctions. That consistency is what lets you trust where each shot will land.
Practice and Preparation
Confidence comes from repetition. Spend time with your firearm and this load before you rely on it, practice from the positions you are most likely to use, and keep track of how it groups. Clean and inspect your firearm regularly so it stays dependable, and always wear eye and ear protection when you shoot.
Choosing the Right Load
Match the load to the job. Full metal jacket and lead loads are built for practice, expanding bullets for hunting and personal protection, and match bullets for paper. Think about your typical distance, the size of the target and what lies beyond it, then pick a load and practice with it so you know where it hits.
Storage and Care
Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original boxes, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect each round before loading, and set aside any with dented cases, loose bullets or corrosion.
