Engineered for Competition Clays

All-American loads use Federal’s one piece Podium wad, designed specifically for straight wall hulls. The wad includes a compression zone that cushions the shot charge at ignition. That softer start helps keep pellets round, which tightens patterns and reduces felt recoil over a long day of shooting.

High antimony lead shot strikes a balance between hardness and density. Harder pellets resist deformation in the barrel and choke, so more of them fly true and arrive in the pattern core. That translates to solid, smoking breaks on trap targets at 16 yards and on longer handicap posts.

The straight wall hull and reliable Federal primer add to the consistency competitors look for. Uniform ignition and payload delivery mean the shell you fire on the last post behaves just like the first.

Field Notes and Trap Tips

Use Federal All American 12ga 8 Shot shells for American trap singles, doubles and handicap, as well as skeet and sporting clays stations with medium range targets. Many shooters prefer #8 shot for 16 yard trap and #7.5 for longer handicap yardage.

Pattern your shotgun with this load before a registered shoot. Check where the pattern centers relative to your point of aim and how dense it is at 30 to 35 yards, then select a choke that gives you the best coverage for your typical target distance.

Keep your gun clean, especially the chamber and choke threads. Plastic wad residue builds up over hundreds of rounds and can affect extraction and choke removal.

The straight wall hull is also popular with reloaders. If you reload, save your fired hulls and inspect them for splits and wear before reusing them.

If you shoot registered trap or skeet and want a softer shooting, competition grade 12 gauge load, Federal All American 12ga 8 Shot shells are a superb choice. Add a quality shell pouch to keep loads handy on the line.

Competitive shooters often buy Federal All American 12ga 8 Shot shells by the flat or case once they settle on a load. Sticking with one shell for a season keeps recoil, timing and sight pictures consistent, which matters when a single lost target can decide a shoot off. Store cases in a cool, dry place off the floor to protect the hulls and primers.

Newer trap shooters can benefit from Federal All American 12ga 8 Shot shells too. A load with consistent patterns and soft recoil makes it easier to learn a smooth gun mount, steady hold points and a good follow through. When the ammunition is predictable, each miss teaches you something about your technique, and progress comes faster.

Wear quality eye and ear protection on every round, and consider a recoil pad or gel insert if you shoot several rounds in a day. Comfort keeps your focus on the target instead of on your shoulder.
